Desperate Housewives Review: "Everything's Different, Nothing's Changed"

at .

We were reminded that the more things change, the more they stay the same when Desperate Housewives finally returned last night. Since the promos began playing for "Everything's Different, Nothing's Changed," I’ve wondered the following:

Was Beth really dead? If so, would Susan receive Beth’s kidney?

What about Paul? Certainly, he wouldn’t allow for anyone to get their happy ending – right?

Paul on Desperate Housewives

I was a bit surprised and grateful that once evil Paul finally came around and let Beth go while giving her what she wanted – to help Susan. However, Susan has been frustrating me lately as she just doesn’t seem to be fighting for her life as hard as she should be.

I understood how she was affected by what Paul said about her not being close to Beth and all, but she has a right to fight for her life – especially for Mike, MJ, Julie, her friends, and herself.

She hasn’t been giving it her all lately.

I can’t say that I cared much for Beth, but I was sad to see the way things ended for her. It didn’t help when Paul broke down in Susan’s arm. This was such a tragic moment. Beth needed someone to be there for her, and no one ever was.

The scene between Paul and Felicia was touching as they both realized they shouldn’t have turned their backs on Beth. I was slightly worried after seeing Felicia’s freakishly-evil smile after finding out she was finally released.

I wondered what wicked plans she had in store for Paul and our folks on Wisteria Lane.

Lynette, clever as always, had me laughing when trying to welcome Tom aboard the “corporate jet” and borrowing the Lotus. She’s always had a way of manipulating him, and it’s appeared to work again – Tom’s moving up to bigger and better things.

However, I can’t help but wonder how this will affect his relationship with Carlos.

While Bree was helping Andrew with his drinking problems, Gaby and Renee were busy planning a neighborhood party. While the former storyline felt like a filler, the latter gave us a chance to see Gaby and Renee bonding.

Better yet, we learned more about Renee’s past, and hopefully, she'll get her own storylines soon. Overall, it was a solid episode. I’m glad the Wisteria ladies are back, aren’t you?!

Desperate Housewives Season 7 Episode 17 Quotes

Mrs. McCluskey: You're still having that thing? A woman's on life support.
Gaby: Exactly. She's not dead. It's like you're making my argument for me.
Mrs. McCluskey: Put Roy and me down for a no, but please call us when you have your Hurricane Katrina pool party.

SURPRISE! What?! What are you supposed to say when someone gets an organ? KIDNEY!
