Emmy Wish List: Lead Actress in a Comedy

at .

With nominations for the 2012 Emmy Awards scheduled to be announced by Nick Offerman and Kerry Washington on July 19, staff writer Dan Forcella is here to give you a quick overview of each category, his predictions for the 2012 nominations and his Emmy Wish Lists for who ought to be on the ballot.

We've already covered Lead Actor Comedy, and now it's on to that category's counterpart...

-------------------------------------------

Today we'll take a look at the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series race. A category truly stacked with the Academy's favorites, I can imagine last year's winner, Melissa McCarthy, not even making the six woman field. Instead, watch for Golden Globe winner Laura Dern, long-time Emmy favorite Julia-Louis Dreyfus or the best darn politician in Indiana to vie for the crown.

Prediction
Laura Dern - Enlightened
Zooey Deschanel - New Girl
Tina Fey - 30 Rock
Laura Linney - The Big C
Julia Louis-Dreyfus - Veep
Amy Poehler - Parks and Recreation

Poehler has been nominated in either lead or supporting the past four years, but is yet to take home the trophy. Tina Fey has won it before, I thought Laura Linney was sure to win last year and Zooey Deschanel is on everyone's radar, so the competition is stronger than ever.

Emmy Wish List

Rachel Bilson - Hart of Dixie
The decision to put Hart of Dixie in the comedy race is interesting, but since it's here, I can't think of anyone I'd rather see nominated than Bilson. I might have enjoyed her Zoe Hart even more than Summer Roberts!

Courteney Cox - Cougar Town
As Cougar Town continues to develop into a great comedy, Cox's portrayal of Jules grows along with it. Whether it's her need to have the cul de sac crew around her 24/7, the constant grape crushing, or her belittling of Tom, Jules is a joy to watch every week.

Zooey Deschanel - New Girl
Viewers may have stayed for Schmidt, but we all began watching the FOX hit for Zooey's very adorkable qualities. With every awkward moment, or strange relationship quirk, I fell further and further for Deschanel.

Justin Long on New Girl

Jane Levy - Suburgatory
Whether it's her love of New York City, her hatred for everything Chatswin, or the sincere relationships that she continued to build, Tessa Altman was a joy to watch every week, and Levy's charming performance was a big reason why.

Laura Linney - The Big C
Like I said earlier, I thought Linney was going to and should have won this award last year, but McCarthy swooped in and stole it. This time around, I'd really like to see her at least be in the running for a second straight season of fantastic comedic and dramatic work.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus - Veep
We loved her as Elaine, she was great as Old Christine, but playing the Vice President of the United States might be JLD's best performance to date. Something so simple as the way she asks if the President has called will make you double over in joy.
