Supernatural Round Table: "We Need to Talk About Kevin"

The boys are officially back in town, as Supernatural Season 8 kicked off Wednesday night with "We Need to Talk About Kevin."

In response to the premiere, TV Fanatic Round Table panelists Carissa Pavlica, Carla Day and Sean McKenna have gathered to break down the best scenes, most quotable lines and biggest surprises.

Won't you join them? Read on and chime in now...

----------------------------------------

What was your favorite scene or quote?
Carissa: Dean's Hey, the rules are simple, Sam! You don't take a joint from a guy named Don and there are no dogs in the car!

Carla: When Sam got the burger for Dean. It was the first moment since they reunited that they were the brothers we love. Sam: It's a burger. Dean: It's a treasure.

Sean: You guys took two of the best lines. I’ll have to give it to Kevin’s quip about his girlfriend: “There’s a demon in you and you’re going to your safety school.”

What did you think of the flashbacks? Did they work for the episode?
Carissa: They did for me. The Purgatory scenes far more than Sam's scenes. The vampires were really interesting and I didn't expect they'd be the resident roosters in Purgatory.

Carla: Yes. I'm glad that the show jumped forward the year, so we didn't have to endure the time with the brothers separated. Though, I am intrigued by their year apart and well done flashbacks will provide important answers.

Sean: I definitely think so although I agree Dean’s were more captivating than Sam’s. That said I’m looking forward to more fleshing out what happened in that one year span.

Were you surprised Sam didn't look for Dean?
Carissa: I don't know. I wonder if he's just had enough and doesn't want to do it any more. When he was in Hell, Dean had a life, maybe he felt it was his turn. Like he just needed a damn break.  If they're together, then they're all in, but if one disappears, they get to have a life. Seems fair.

Carla: I wasn't, but that's because I interviewed Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki last week and they talked about the separation. I was surprised that Sam just gave up the hunter life cold turkey, didn't look for Dean, or even answer his phones. I hope the flashbacks provide a good explanation for Sam's behavior.

Sean: I get both sides of the argument, but I understand that maybe Sam just needed that break. I can only imagine going through what these guys have been through. I’m sure we’ll get a better sense of everything as we go on.

What's up with Benny? And why is Dean still in contact with him?
Carissa: I don't care. I adore Ty Olsson and couldn't be happier to have him on board. Everything he does rocks my world and his civil war era vampire is exciting and sexy. You know he's going to be trouble in the long run, but I'm good with that. I can't wait to find out what kind of trouble he'll bring!

Carla: Benny's a vampire and he wanted to get out of Purgatory. He needed a human to get him out and partnered up with Dean. I'm not sure of much about him other than that. They have some kind of plan, but no clue what it could be. It's weird seeing Dean being friends with a vampire. I don't trust, Benny.

Sean: He hasn’t had much to do, but he has a great screen presence. I’m expecting big things, especially because Dean partnered up with him in Purgatory. Dean friends with a monster? I’m excited to see what their “friendship” is all about.

Do you think there are even more "word of God" tablets?
Carissa: As if there could be a shortage of God tablets. What ELSE did God have to do in his spare time but write tablets?

Carla: Probably. It would be a good mystery for them to track them down.

Sean: If there’s one for demons, there’s bound to be one for angels, right?

Kevin joining the team. Approve?
Carissa: Yes. Fresh, young and an appropriate smart ass. I liked him when he first stopped by last season and the story progression on his own makes the character more interesting. He has things of his own to contribute. Only one episode and the season is shaping up beautifully!

Carla: Love Kevin. He has an innocence about him that is refreshing. Also, I love that the boys have a positive force with them now. The show has missed that since Cas's early seasons.

Sean: I’m glad he’s helping the brothers out especially with the fact that they’ve lost everyone. He’s got some great lines and a charismatic presence. Welcome, Kevin Tran of Advanced Placement.
