How to Get Away with Murder Season 1 Episode 7 Review: He Deserved to Die

What an interesting turn of events!

How to Get Away with Murder Season 1 Episode 7 strayed from the norm this week and didn't give us an outside case of the week. Instead, we focused on Rebecca and the upcoming trial. The flash forwards were also Rebecca centric.

Whether or not you enjoyed this episode will probably depend on your feelings towards Rebecca. I may not be her biggest fan, but I found the hour to be pretty compelling.

Taking a Meeting - How to Get Away with Murder

Past episodes have shown us that Rebecca is a manipulator and pretty decent liar. And even though I knew that, she still got me with her speech to Annalise and company about how she killed Lila.

It was meant as a joke, because murder is hysterical of course, but Annalise was not in the mood for her antics and she had no problem telling her.

Annalise: Rebecca, take this prep seriously or go to jail.
Rebecca: Isn't it kinda your job to make sure that doesn't happen?
Annalise: You slut, white trash killer. You made Griffin strangle that girl on the roof. You liked watching her die because that's the piece of garbage you are. That's what everyone in the world is going to say about you. You don't care, neither do I. I'm not the one that's going to be beaten, raped and violated in jail. That's on you.

Annalise has never exactly been the warm and fuzzy type, but with each passing week she seems to be unraveling a little more. With the murder a mere two weeks away, maybe she finally reaches her breaking point and Sam gets the brunt of her anger, if you know what I'm saying. That's one theory.

Another theory that's been floating around is the Rebecca killed Sam theory but I don't buy it. For starters, it's way too obvious.

The first flash forward we got tonight was of Wes whisking Rebecca away from the crime scene and cleaning off her blood stained face. Now that could very well be Sam's blood, but I still don't think she's the killer. I've watched enough television in my day to spot a red herring.

Quick note here, if Rebecca does turn out to be the killer, please take it easy on me in the comments. We're all friends here.

Anyway, with no case of the week, we followed the team as they implored a judge to put a gag order on the case after some evidence was leaked proving Rebecca and Griffin had sex the night of Lila's murder.

Annalise didn't want Rebecca to be tainted in the eyes of the public and the gag order was approved. However, Griffin's lawyer Mr. Keegan, played by Ally McBeal alum Greg Germann, used the court appearance to motion for the court to exhume Lila's body after discovering some new evidence.

He reasoned that the first autopsy failed to recognize that there were fingernail puncture wounds on the side of Lila's neck, put there by the murderer whom he identifies as Rebecca.

Annalise and the team race to discredit his expert witness and get an assist by the D.A., Wendy Parks. She brings them a sealed file that shows Keegan's expert had a history of negligent work. Annalise then countered with her own expert who testified that the marks were insect bites done post mortem.

After getting Lila's mother to testify against the exhumation, it looked like Annalise was poised for another victory. But not so fast. D.A. Parks made a plea agreement with Griffin and brought forth her own witness who claimed the marks were fingernail puncture wounds.

Annalise went to hot Nate thinking he could help get some information on Parks but I think it's safe to say he's pretty much done with her at this point.

Annalise: He didn't do it.
Nate: You don't believe that. You planted Lila's phone in Griffin's car. What? You surprised someone's on to your tricks.
Annalise: You should go.
Nate: I tried to give you an out. Don't forget that when this all goes to hell.

Is anyone else dying to learn more about hot Nate?

In the end, Rebecca broke the gag order herself, claiming Griffin raped her, which negated the deal between Griffin and the D.A. That proved to be a minor win though because the judge approved the exhumation.

Wes was furious with Rebecca for lying but the fury turned to lust and the two of them gave into the sexual chemistry that's been hovering around them since the pilot.

There was lots of s.e.x. this week. We had Connor and a random guy in the bathroom and Laurel and Frank getting it on outside, but the Wes/Rebecca scene had the distinct pleasure of being intercut with the dissection of Lila's dead body. Yeah, no thank you show.

With Rebecca at the center, there wasn't much time to delve into anything else, but we did get little nuggets of information I'm sure will come in to play later.

Michaela's future hubby wanted a pre-nup. Awkward. And Connor continued his downward spiral, as he was really missing Oliver.

But the big revelations came at the end, as they always do on this show.

I've been hearing a lot of chatter about hot Nate possibly being Sam's killer. Well, I think that theory gained some traction after his interaction with Rebecca.

I know you didn't kill Lila Stangard. We both know who did. Help me catch him.

Nate [to Rebecca]

Bringing those two together will be very, very interesting. We haven't seen his whereabouts the night of the murder.

Also interesting? Some new Lila Stangard information.

They missed something in the first autopsy. Lila was six weeks pregnant.

Bonnie

Yup, Lila was pregnant. Did she know she was pregnant? Did Sam know she was pregnant? WHO KNEW SHE WAS PREGNANT?

Man, this show is good. And we are so close to finding out hashtag who killed Sam. I'm pretty confident in my theory but I'll wait until next week to reveal it to the world.

What did you guys think of this week's installment? Did you like Rebecca more or less? What do you think hot Nate is up to? Leave me a comment so we can discuss everything. Seriously you guys, your comments are amazing.
