It's a new week here in Archerland with a new adventure that inevitably involves as much of the gang as possible in one place so they can bounce lines off each other.
On Archer Season 6 Episode 7, Archer has to recruit Cheryl's help because he's stranded in Vegas and he's on the no-fly list so he needs her private plane. Naturally, everyone except Lana and Mallory tag along.
While Cheryl, Krieger, and Pam want to go to Branson, Archer wants to go straight home, and a surface-to-air missile really wants the plane to crash land in Roswell, New Mexico. The missile wins the argument.
The military is angry at Archer and crew for flying too low near Roswell but Archer saves the gang from imprisonment and/or getting shot at by remembering Slater's code and impersonating him. Sort of. Evidently, the crew is to all be prisoners under Archer but fortunately for them, Archer gets distracted by the quest for a good cocktail.
In the interim, Pam and Krieger get distracted by an alien who ends up showing them the secrets of the universe. It's pretty heavy stuff in-universe but Archer plays it off with a comic tone. Specifically, Pam and Krieger have to trade complete enlightenment with the fact that no one will ever believe them and they sound nuts. It's appropriate for Archer to move on because this isn't a show that has time to go full X-Files (although I haven't seen an episode of that show so this might be going full X-Files for all I know) on us.
Now's as good of a time as any to bring up a pressing issue which has been nagging me since Archer and his gang have evolved into a family of sorts. While he has become slightly more mature with his feelings towards Lana and having an overt fondness for Pam, there is still a lot of jerk left in Archer. He still treats Cyril, Ray, and Cheryl like dirt.
In particular, one would think that Archer might develop at least some sort of bond through experience with Cyril and Ray after having been through a couple of life-or-death adventures with those two over the past couple of seasons.
If that's not going to happen, perhaps Ray and Cyril could have just a tad more bite when Archer is being a jerk to them. It's for this reason that one of my favorite moments of last season was Cyril and Ray trying to neutralize Archer by hitting him over the head with a fire extinguisher in Archer Season 5 Episode 7. We then had Cyril getting full-on revenge in Archer Season 5 Episode 12 which seemed like a major turning point in the power dynamic between those two.
Now it appears that a reset button was applied with Archer/Cyril while any sort of direction Archer/Ray could have gone has just sort of stalled.
This isn't the end of the world but it would make things interesting.
Also worth mentioning: There are some scenes involving Mallory and Lana talking about the baby (which happens nearly every week) and everyone's in their underwear for most of the episode.
What did you think of the episode? Do think the relationships between Archer, Cyril, and Ray need to change or are they perfect the way they are? Why was everyone in their underwear again? Find out all this and more by watching Archer online which you can do right here at TV Fanatic.
