Nashville Season 3 Episode 13 Review: Lost Between Right and Wrong

at .  Updated at .

Never poke a mama bear because her claws are sharp!

Rayna spent Nashville Season 3 Episode 13 trying to get Maddie out of her contract with Edgehill, and nobody, I'm looking at you Jeff, was going to stand in her way.

Before we get to Rayna's epic takedown of Jeff, let's talk about what went down during the rest of the episode.

Scarlett was living in the land of denial while Deacon was getting his affairs in order. Scarlett can be extremely annoying, but it's hard to dislike her when she cares so deeply for Deacon.

Deacon researched his cancer online, which is the absolute worst thing you can do when you're sick!

After reading, he decided he probably only has six months left. I was glad to see that hearing Maddie sing and play made Deacon want to fight for his life. It was sad to see him avoid her.

Scarlett: Say hi to Maddie for me.
Deacon: Why's she 'Facetiming' me now?
Scarlett: 'Cause you're her dad, and she wants time with your face.

Scarlett got a good talking to from Doctor Hottie. Even more annoying than a negative person is an overly optimistic one, so thankfully Scarlett now knows she needs to be there to support Deacon and not tell him how he should feel.

She's also flirting with Doctor Hottie and bringing him coffee.

Gunnar was having himself a little pity party over Kiley sleeping with his brother all those years ago. Is it just me, or did this feel like a very late reaction?

Gunnar has known about all this information for a while now. Maybe he was too wrapped up in the Micah drama to fully come to terms with their betrayal.

No matter because a drunk Luke was more than willing to have a boys night out with Gunnar and Will. These scenes were mostly boring to watch, but Luke did reveal he's more sensitive and hurt by Rayna than people may realize.

He also got some funny lines in there.

Luke: I have to say it felt great to write that song.
Gunnar: Yeah.
Luke: You should try writing one of your own. Your first love sleeps with your brother. Gunnar, it doesn't get anymore country than that.

Avery played knight and shining armor for Sadie, and I loved every second of it. Avery's progression from jerk to caring friend and husband has been wonderful to watch.

He's dedicated to a silly but overbearing pregnant Juliette, while also making sure every part of Sadie's recording is perfect.

Avery was there to listen to Sadie's trouble with her ex, Pete. I hope Pete has no real claim over her music, and he'll go away soon. I was so proud when she confronted him and managed to sing her heart out immediately afterward.

Now let's get into the Rayna, Teddy, and Jeff of it all.

Rayna kicked major ass and stood up as a parent in a way we've never seen Teddy do. Rayna may be absent a lot due to touring, but she'd never let anything like this happen to her daughters.

Teddy clearly acted like a coward, and Rayna is ready to make sure her girls aren't around him like this.

It was certainly a low blow to threaten Teddy with stripping him of his parental rights over Maddie, but she did what needed to be done.

Rayna: Are you thinking this is just going to make you the cool Dad or do you really think this is a good idea?
Teddy: Yes I do, and I have every right to make decisions regarding my daughter's life?
Rayna: Not if I can help it you don't.

Rayna's verbal takedown of Jeff in front of Mr. Benton was glorious. Jeff is officially out at Edgehill and crawled with his tail between his legs to Layla's doorstep.

The hopeful side of me would like to think Layla won't fall for his apologies, but my realistic side knows better. He'll be back in her bed soon enough. Layla can do better because Jeff is the absolute worst!

The fallout of this should be interesting over the next few episodes. If Maddie finds out she briefly had a recording contract that Rayna ruined, she might turn on her. Let's face it, Maddie is majorly bratty.

There will also surely be repercussions for Teddy. Rayna might take legal action to keep Maddie and Daphne away from him. If so, it will destroy their family.

Favorite Performance of the Week: My favorite song this week goes to Sadie. She sang with so much strength, both in her voice and in her body language. I like seeing the strong side of Sadie come out.

So over to you guys! What did you think of the episode? Will a custody battle begin between Rayna and Teddy? Will Layla continue to fall for Jeff? Has Scarlett found a new boyfriend?
