CSI Cyber Season 1 Episode 8 Review: Selfie 2.0

Cyber criminals really are only a key stroke away. In this case the criminal was using those key strokes to update the social media pages of his victims to make it look like nothing was wrong.

Despite the modus operandi of the killer faking the victims move to Europe, the case on CSI: Cyber Season 1 Episode 8 this week was nothing Avery Ryan couldn't handle.

Social Media Updates - CSI: Cyber

At the center of the case this week was a serial kidnapper/killer who tracked down his victims through online dating sites and then made it look like they moved to Europe on their social pages.

This worked with Elizabeth because she was not close to her parents, who seemed to be okay with the fact she left their house at 18 and then moved to Europe. It made me wonder if Elizabeth had any other friends that were suspicious of where she went. I suppose if her parents didn't want to report her missing it wouldn't matter as much. What kind of parents would just stop looking though?

The case took a turn for the creepy when a second girl was abducted with the exact same features, which then turned into seven.

To solve the case Mundo led the charge on figuring out what it was about the two girls' Friend Agenda pages that allowed the killer to find them.

Did anyone see where this was going? Elizabeth and Missy both took a lot of selfies and neither turned their phone's GPS location service off. Thus, the killer was able to figure out where each girl lived.

My head was spinning at how fast the team was able to leap through hoops to get get to this conclusion. After the cop show fast facial recognition program the team was left with Barry Tipton.

An average New Yorker gets caught on camera almost a thousand times a day just walking the streets. Don't think for one minute big bro isn't harvesting that information.

Barry

Do people just wear those masks around at random to avoid cameras? I can't even imagine all of the reasons why people would put on that mask.

The case got even more creepy and sad after meeting Vanessa, who was a captive for so long she came to love her kidnapper and would even do some of his bidding for him. It was heartbreaking to watch Vanessa's sister have to relieve the horror of what they went through as children.

We also got to meet yet another person from Avery's past. A woman named Trisha who is the sister of Avery's patient who was murdered. We still don't know how or why she died, but at this rate I expect we will find out soon.

It was endearing to see just how loving and thoughtful Avery is as a person when she opened up to Krumitz. She really cares deeply for everyone around her and isn't just overly obsessed with her job.

I lost someone very close to me. She was murdered. But you know what gets me off the floor? This. The idea of bringing a daughter back home to her mother. I play that over and over in my head until it comes true. That is why I do what I do everyday. By healing you I heal me. My job is to stand up for Missy and so is yours.

Avery

What does everyone think of Trisha? Was there anything about the case this week that didn't work for you? Were you a fan of the double features this week? Which episode did you like better?

CSI: Cyber Season 1 Episode 8 Quotes

Missy is worth more to you alive than dead. And as long as that is the case we stand a good chance of bringing her home alive.
