Grey's Anatomy Season 11 Episode 18 Review: When I Grow Up

Show of hands: who went on a field trip to an ER in the fifth grade? Or any grade for that matter?

Am I the only one that thinks an emergency room is an inappropriate place for children?

Luckily, none of the kids on Grey's Anatomy Season 11 Episode 18 ended up scarred for life, but perhaps if the school wants to continue these trips in the future, they should at least consider hiring more than one chaperone.

As sad as the story of the two brothers was, it was also really predictable. I didn't feel like I even had a chance to hope that one or both of them would survive, because as soon as Owen made the comment about not letting their mom lose both of her sons... we all knew what would happen.

Then finding out they were both brain dead, it was obvious one of their organs would save the kid. Even when the mom blew up at Bailey we knew it would end up that way.

I get that Bailey has to do everything she can to save her patient, but I can't imagine asking the mother of his victim to donate her son's organ. Her whole ethical argument didn't make sense either.

If the mom agreed to donate the organs, it would be up to UNOS to decide who received them. Shouldn't the liver go to the next person on the list?

The kid was in such bad shape that he may have vaulted to the top of the list anyway, but I don't see how ethically Bailey had to ask for the direct donation when there might be someone else who needed it just as badly. I was on Team Meredith for that argument and don't think Bailey's guilt trip on her was fair.

I admit that I was worried about Derek returning to the hospital and working for Amelia. I was skeptical throughout the episode whether he could truly be happy clipping aneurysms, but by the end, I was convinced.

He gave a pretty great speech about not wanting to miss his kids grow up. The trip to DC was exactly what he needed to gain some perspective and remember why he became a doctor in the first place – to save lives.

As far as we know, he still hasn't told Meredith about the kiss, and that's a problem. I have a bad feeling it is going to blow up in his face before the end of the season. Who thinks the DC doctor is going to show up in Seattle a la Addison and shake things up? I really hope that doesn't happen. I just want him to come clean so they can move on and be happy again.

Meredith had that amazing streak going that started when Derek left and ended as soon as he returned. She's now 0 for 2 since he's been back. Coincidence?

In the romance department, Stephanie took a shot on the chaperone and found out he's still in high school. It might be awhile before Jo lets her live that one down.

Callie hit it off with her patient. Should she take him up on his dinner offer?

Amelia is already falling in love with Owen. That was fast! It was sweet watching her open up to her brother about it, though. I wonder if Derek will give him the "big brother" talk on their fishing trip.

Don't forget, you can watch Grey's Anatomy online any time.

NOTE: Grey's Anatomy Season 11 Episode 19 will be titled "Crazy Love" and will air on Thursday, April 9.
