The Vampire Diaries Season 6 Finale Promo: Is Elena Dead?

Kai became the ultimate wedding crasher on The Vampire Diaries Season 6 Episode 21, interrupting Jo and Alaric's nuptials to seemingly kill both his sister and Elena.
But while we were a big fan of Jo and while we don't wish to see Alaric sad, the obvious focus heading into next week's season finale is on one question and one question only:
Is Elena Gilbert really dead?
We know Nina Dobrev is leaving. We know The Vampire Diaries Season 6 Episode 22 will be our final chance to see her on screen.
But we also know there will be a flash forward on “I'm Thinking of You All the While."
So here's our prediction: no, Elena will not die.
Instead, Damon will realize just how perilous life as a human can be for Elena and, as a result, he will compel her to forget him. He will send her away from Mystic Falls.
And we'll then flash forward to the future of Elena Gilbert, seeing that she's happy and healthy and living life as a very-much-alive human, no longer the damsel in constant distress.
