Mistresses Season 3 Episode 7 Review: The Best Laid Plans

at .  Updated at .

We've seen a lot of things over the past few seasons on Mistresses, but have we ever gotten an ending like that?

Mistresses Season 3 Episode 7 wasn't exactly the most thrilling episode of all time, but it did have a pretty awesome ending. Between the April and Marc side hug and THAT untimely death, I upped the score by a half a star.

If you didn't get a chance to watch the whole episode, you've been warned! Because you can't start talking about it and not begin with the twist.

Joss and Luca - Mistresses

Oh, Luca. I would say we hardly knew you, but we did know you. You were a creep who was out to get our girl Calista, so you had to go. I just didn't think your exit would be so permanent.

That's right people, Luca has been killed by an unknown assailant, and Joss has stumbled upon the body. The setup to the scene was extremely disturbing, as we watched a disgusted Joss kiss and be groped by the man married to her new best friend. And when things began to really heat up, Joss ran for cover, only to later be met with darkness and a dead body.

Is there any way Calista killed Luca? It was sure set up to make it seem that way, wasn't it? From her long looks of despair and her outrage at Joss for being almost gleeful about the prospect of Luca wanting to cheat with her, it seemed like we were supposed to believe Calista was up to something.

I don't buy it though. Could my love affair with Calista be clouding my judgment? Perhaps. But if I had to guess, I'd say this has Wilson's fingerprints all over it.

Joss: You and Wilson? Calista, why didn't you tell me?
Calista: Because it's embarrassing. I know what a huge hypocrite that makes me look like. And I didn't want it to affect the way you see me.
Joss: Whoa, I'm Joss. I don't judge.

Wilson loves Calista, and getting him out of the picture means Calista can be his, and she can retain her fortune. The murder investigation will probably play out over the course of the rest of the season, but I just can't imagine Calista had anything to do with it.

While the death was the wow factor this week, there were some other storylines that took center stage. Some interesting (April and Karen) and some snooze-worthy (I'm looking at you Harry).

The Karen/Vivian/Alec dynamic has been an extremely fascinating study this season, and things just changed drastically as we saw Karen and Alec have their own rendezvous san Vivian. I think we all saw that coming from a mile away, but it didn't make it any less strange.

I'm not sure the show has done the best job in creating the chemistry between the three of them that's needed to really make the story pop, but I do think there is something between Karen and Alec that I find intriguing. When he lied to Vivian about being at the office, it was clear that he felt guilty about being alone with Karen. And that guilt comes from his feelings for her.

Will Alec tell Vivian about their hook up? I'm betting he does, and I'm betting it throws a monkey wrench into the threesomes already slightly fragile arrangement.

April's story revolved around her and her mother's precarious relationship. No new ground was broken here, with Mom pretty much being the exact person April made her out to be. Old habits die hard, and when we give someone the benefit of the doubt, it hurts that much more when our worst fears continue to be realized.

April tried to let her Mom back in, but if her mother is unwilling to get help, then April needs to do what's best for her and Lucy. I'm glad she and Lucy were able to come together and share that moment. Their relationship has forever been altered, but there was some hope tonight that things could eventually go back to normal.

Lastly, Harry wants to be the next Rachael Ray. Seriously. I'm really interested to know if people connect to Harry when his story doesn't involve the ladies. If Harry isn't directly involved with the main girls, I find myself checking out.

Okay, it's time to react! What did you think about "The Best Laid Plans"? Who killed Luca? When are April and Marc going to hook up? Will Alec tell Vivian about his closet hookup with Karen?

Drop me a comment and let's discuss it all. If you're behind, catch up and watch Mistresses online right now!
