Zoo Season 1 Episode 7 Review: Sleuths

at .  Updated at .

This was a beary special episode of Zoo.

Okay, now that I've made that obvious bear joke (and it won't be the last one,) I'm ready to talk about everything that went down on Zoo Season 1 Episode 7. Tonight's episode was light on action, but very heavy on exposition. I found the hour to go by very quickly, and my mind is still wrapping around the events which occurred.

Jamie: So basically, you're looking for a fingerprint, chemically speaking?
Mitch: Look at you, getting all science-y!

For starters, we discovered that there are, indeed, consequences for Jamie after she killed Agent Shaffer. In Zoo Season 1 Episode 6, Jamie and Jackson arrived at the airport, in what seemed to be an easy escape after their deadly fight in the hotel stairwell.

I thought that perhaps there would be no retaliation on Jamie for her actions, however, early on in tonight's episode, we learned that she needs to change her identity, and lay low until the Zoo Crew can prove that Agent Shaffer was a shady guy.

Mitch discovered what the true powers of the Mother Cell are; the Cell accelerates animal evolution, giving animals the traits and characteristics that they would normally develop over centuries in the future. It explains everything.

The lions' ability to communicate, the bats' ability to fly high, and the bears' brand new exoskeletons, which make them almost impossible to sedate.

You don't have to do this. You're right, it's dangerous. But more importantly; if you were to come under attack by bears, I would be rooting for the bears.

Chloe

Ah, those bears. Three bears are on the loose in Paris, and no one thought to call Goldilocks to find them? (That's bear joke number two, if you're keeping count.)

The bear situation causes Chloe to come face-to-face with Jean-Michel, her former fiance, who we know left Chloe for her sister. Her final words to Jean-Michel are an encouragement to him to be better to her sister than he was to Chloe. Again, this is a more mature and courageous Chloe than the woman Jackson saved in Africa.

She isn't afraid to stand up for herself, or for what she believes is right. It seems that courage will be important moving forward.

Be good to my sister. Better than you were to me.

Chloe

Speaking of courage, let's talk about Abraham. We've seen glimpses of his dark side, but we finally heard the full story of his background. Kidnapped by a rebel army, he was given a choice during initiation; which of his younger brothers would he kill? He chose neither, sealing their fate, understanding that it was better that they die than be molded into killers.

That event motivates Abraham to protect his family, which now includes the whole Zoo Crew. Another stellar monologue from Nonso Anozie.

It's becoming more and more interesting to me each week that James Wolk is billed as the star of Zoo, yet Jackson has really taken a back seat to lend support to strong performances from the rest of the principle cast. With so much of the Robert Oz mystery left to unravel, I'm really hoping that Jackson's story moves to the forefront next.

You don't know me, but you're going to want to listen very carefully to what I have to say.

Mitch

In unbearable news (that's number three,) we learned that Mitch is double-crossing the team. I understand that his motivation to save Clementine would drive him to make a deal with the devil, but I'm not totally buying into Mitch working with Reiden Global. I predict a double-double cross. I can't bear (unintentional) to think that Mitch, my favorite character to this point, would suddenly become a devious guy.

Stray thoughts:

  • In case you missed it, a pack of bears is called a "sleuth."
  • Also, in case you missed it, the Zoo Crew reminded us again that scat means "poop."
  • Abraham isn't afraid to jump into a car that may or may not have a hungry lion in it, but is nervous about putting a cotton swab in a sedated sleeping bear's mouth?
  • Jackson is fluent in French, and wore that fabulous suit. Let that sink in for a minute, and commence swooning.
  • Seriously Chloe, did you see Jackson in that suit?
  • Everything makes sense with wine. Everything.

We're officially more than halfway through Season 1 of Zoo! Missed any episodes, or want to see them again? You can watch Zoo online right here at TV Fanatic, and relive your favorite moments of the summer so far!

So how about it? Is Mitch going to the dark side? Is it time for Jackson to get some answers about his father? Tune in next week, for Zoo Season 1 Episode 8, and come right back here to discuss afterward!
