Bones Season 11 Episode 7 Review: The Promise in the Palace

Booth and Brennan debated whether magic had its place in Bones Season 11 Episode 7

I know it’s the show’s general format, but does anyone else get tired of the opening scene always being stupid people finding a decomposing body? It used to be the gory corpses that got to me, but lately it’s the general idiocy of the people who find them.

Setting aside that one pet peeve, this was a very entertaining episode that dove into the world of magic and deception. Brennan’s stance on magic was no surprise. Science doesn’t deceive. It’s primary aim is to find the truth and share it with the world. Magic is filled with lies and secrecy.

The moment Aubrey mentioned the Mandarin Peel Truffle Oil that the roommate's boyfriend was using, I knew that would come back into play at some point.

At that point, I was expecting the killer to be the roommate until it became obvious that her sleazy boyfriend certainly wasn’t worth killing anyone over.

The moment Aubrey uncovered that the flowers were sent from a casino in Las Vegas congratulating Klarissa on her new job, it became clear who killed her.

The Drunken Monkey was a great name for an escape trick. My question was, how much does it cost to get enough Scotch to fill a vat to do that trick?

I also loved that Brennan tricked Lenny Jay into confessing by making up evidence until she could get the real thing processed. Just like magic, the man was spilling his guts while still blaming the victim.

Booth and Brennan’s conversation about whether or not they would move on if something happened to the other was both sweet and funny. Brennan seemed truly touched by the fact that Booth didn’t like thinking about her moving on with someone else, no matter what the circumstances.

I couldn’t help but laugh when Brennan described her version of the tooth fairy in this Bones quote

I don't want to teach our daughter that it's okay for a stranger to break into her room and steal discarded body parts.

Brennan

Somehow she made the beloved tooth fairy sound like something out of a horror movie.

The person I felt for the most in this installment was Cam. Moving on from Arastoo is difficult, as it should be. What surprised me was Angela’s reaction when she told Cam that she might not find a relationship as special as the one she had with Arastoo again. Talk about being a pessimist. I agree that Cam won’t know unless she gives someone else a chance, but if Cam and Arastoo’s relationship was perfect, he wouldn’t have left her behind to further his career.

Maybe there is someone even better out there for Cam. There’s always the possibility that that person could be Sebastian.
