The Bastard Executioner: Canceled by FX
Matt Richenthal at .At least Kurt Sutter will always have Sons of Anarchy.
The executive producer and creator of The Bastard Executioner shared the sad, albeit not unexpected, news today that FX has canceled his latest drama after just one season.
A day after the series aired its first season finale, Sutter took the unusual step of confirming the show’s axing via a series of ads in the Hollywood trades.
“The audience has spoken and, unfortunately, the word is ‘meh,’ Sutter wrote. “So with due respect, we bring our anthology to an epic and fiery close.”
That sums it up well.
Not only did The Bastard Executioner barely average one million viewers per week, it failed to garner any sort of social media or online buzz.
Up next, Sutter said he wants to help bring to life (but not run) a Mayan-centric Sons of Anarchy spinoff.
