How to Get Away with Murder Season 2 Episode 12 Review: It's a Trap

at .  Updated at .

Just when you think you have it all figured out, the last two minutes of How to Get Away with Murder Season 2 Episode 12 throw everything into chaos!

As we quickly approach the season finale, it's about time we got some more answers to some of the questions that have been looming large for a long time. And while we still don't know what Frank owed Sam that caused him to murder Lila, we now know more about Wes's mother and her connection to Annalise.

We also learned (SPOILER ALERT) Wes is pretty much a serial killer.

Let's split this installment into two parts, shall we? We'll first start with the flashbacks, or as I like to call them, the days when Annalise smiled.

It turns out, Annalise didn't just randomly meet Wes's mother Rose in a park one day and strike up a friendship out of thin air. Instead she was tasked with learning if Rose was going to be able to provide an alibi for her client, a wealthy man accused of butchering his fiancee.

Nothing too shocking here, as it seemed pretty clear from the jump that Rose was being forced to corroborate Mr. Mahoney's story. Rose waffled a lot over what to do and it was interesting to see Annalise try to appeal to Rose's maternal instincts.

Shame on you for using your own baby to make me do this.

Rose [to Annalise]

These flashbacks can be so jarring at times, when you catch glimpses of how different things were 10 years ago. Annalise was still the work obsessed woman she is today, but she seemed truly happy. We saw glimpses of that happiness in How To Get Away With Murder Season 2 Episode 11, but it was ramped up even more this week.

She gifted Frank with a suit and a fist pump. She smiled at Sam and looked at him like she loved him. (I know, I'm still trying to process that as well.)

Anyway, when it came time for Rose to testify, she never showed up. One would then conclude that the crazypants Mahoney's killed her and then made it look like a suicide, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

No, there's a whole other truth out there that we learned during the second part of this episode. With Annalise and the team fretting about the video Philip sent them, Laurel decided to break away from the Frank drama and visit Wes, which led to a jaunt to Ohio to investigate the Mahoney case.

Let's just get the awkwardness out of the way and talk about the kiss. I have no idea how this will play out to the fans, but I found it so weird. I've never sensed the slightest spark between Wes and Laurel, so as I watched the car scene unfold and noticed the lingering looks and body language, I had to say WTF out loud.

I can only hope this was a one time event, because I can't see them together in any kind of capacity. Plus, I'm still rooting for Frank and Laurel!

Just when we thought the only thing that really happened in Ohio was that weird kiss, Laurel dropped the bombshell by episode's end.

Is it true? Did Wes kill his mother?

Laurel [to Annalise]

So, in case there was any doubt, Wes is a seriously deranged human being, right? Did you see the look on his face when his mother told him they weren't going to watch TV together that night? I feel like he went right for the knife and came back swinging right after that.

Totally not where I was expecting this storyline to go, but dammit if I'm not fully on board.

While the left turn ending was the highlight of the episode for me, there was a lot of time spent on Annalise and everyone freaking out over the video from murder mansion and the sender's attempt at blackmail.

Even though we don't have confirmation that Philip is indeed the blackmailer, everyone is assuming it's him so I'll go along with that line of thinking as well. I'm not really sure what to make of it, but I do know that I like Connor's thought process.

Philip has proved to be an extremely tech savvy, grade A creep, and if I was any one of them, I'd be trying to get the hell out of town. Was it really shocking to them that he'd be videotaping them now? The guy is unstable, has no chill and is probably devastated his faux sister turned on him.

I'd be fine with never seeing Philip again, but unfortunately, it seems like he's just getting started torturing this crazy group.

It's time to toss it over to you guys and ask what you thought about "It's A Trap." How is the team going to stop Philip? Were you completely weirded out by Wes and Laurel? Did Wes kill his mother? What happened to Annalise's baby?

Make sure you don't miss a minute of the action and watch How to Get Away with Murder online right now!

How to Get Away with Murder Season 2 Episode 12 Quotes

Shame on you for using your own baby to make me do this.

Rose [to Annalise]

Connor: His email is Argus. It's from Greek mythology. Argus is a one hundred eyed giant who sees everything, which means Philip has seen everything.
Annalise: Isn't that cute of him? He's taunting us with nicknames. So, what do you want me to do? I'm not on the video.
