Do you think Jane Rizzoli likes zombies?
On Rizzoli & Isles Season 7 Episode 3 she complained that she didn't. Over and over. She was so annoyed by the presence of fake zombies that it's amazing she was able to focus to help solve the case.
Meanwhile, everyone else seemed to have real-life problems.
Jane's dislike of anything unconventional is sometimes amusing – but that's usually because she's can bounce things off of Maura. Jane complaining without Maura isn't much fun at all.
I am a homicide detective. I don't understand the appeal of pretending to be dead.Janie
Jane's intense dislike of zombies ended up just being annoying, especially because she wouldn't let it go. The running "joke" of Jane being annoyed with zombie makeup just wasn't funny after a while, and pulling the plug on the jukebox so the zombies couldn't dance in the Dirty Robber was just obnoxious.
Who doesn't know their wallet was stolen?Frankie
The case itself was one of those quirky cases that seemed to be a vehicle for exploring relationships rather than a story in its own right. The main point, besides Frankie teasing Jane, seemed to be that Frankie and Nina were attempting to pretend their relationship was strictly professional while working side-by-side.
I don't need everyone to know as long as I know you're sure about us.Nina
The reason Nina didn't want Jane to know about their relationship wasn't clear. It didn't make sense that knowing Frankie wanted to share the secret was good enough for her. In that case, why not just let him tell since it doesn't matter either way? Hopefully Nina has some other, more interesting reason for wanting to keep the relationship to herself.
Jared: That guy? Really?
Jane: What about him?
Jared: That's the cop who came to my house.
Little Jared was adorable. I would have liked to have seen him have a more prominent role in the story since he was the only eyewitness. It would have been interesting to see a reaction from his mother, since she didn't think he really saw any zombies outside his window.
The case may have been lackluster, but the two emotional subplots helped make up for the silliness.
Jane: You told me you were feeling better, that you don't have any more symptoms.
Maura: Yeah, but that could change at any moment and there's nothing I can do about it and I don't excel at doing nothing.
Maura's struggle with the aftereffects of her subdural hematoma (or whatever it is) is going to make this final season hard to get through.
Seeing her face the possibility that her cognitive problems may be permanent and could get worse is sad enough. If she actually ends up with a serious, life-long disability, I'm really going to lose it.
Maura and Jane have always been the heart of the show, so hopefully there will be more scenes between the two of them as this progresses.
Jane's understated reactions and refusal to agree with Maura's pessimism about her prognosis right now are perfect, but as the season progresses there should be some more meaty, emotional stuff.
Angela's storyline was also interesting. Seeing her struggle with getting her GED added depth to her character, especially given the backstory that she didn't graduate high school because her then-husband didn't think she needed to.
Angela is still struggling to find her place in the world. Her insecurity about her mathematical ability made me wonder if the real reason she broke up with Ron was she worried she wasn't smart enough for him.
In any case, it was clear that Max was more than a little smitten with Angela. He is, of course, far too young for her, so it most probably will go nowhere. Hopefully Angela will let him down gently.
The friendship between Angela and Vince is one of the best parts of the show. It was good to see Vince encourage Angela to keep trying. Once again, the chemistry between them made me wonder why Vince married Kiki instead of giving Angela another try.
What did you think? Did "Cops vs. Zombies" leave you with a craving for brains? Did you enjoy this somewhat silly case? Do you think Angela will get her GED?
