Supergirl Season 2 Episode 9 Review: Supergirl Lives

at .

That hiatus was way too long!

Thankfully, we were rewarded for our patience with lots of laughs, heartwarming moments, and Winn's first time in the field!

Seriously, I was feeling as giddy as Alex all throughout Supergirl Season 2 Episode 9. How about you?

Mon-El and Kara in Trouble - Supergirl Season 2 Episode 9

I can't get enough of happy Alex.

Even in all black, you can tell she's glowing. Alex and Maggie couldn't be more adorable together.

It's Alex's first real relationship though, and she came very close to blowing it already. It's hard to blame her since she was in panic mode over Kara, but she was harsh towards Maggie.

After that scene, I was definitely thinking, "if Maggie doesn't already know, Alex is going to have to tell her."

But, Maggie is a detective, and a really good one. Besides, we've all been saying from the beginning that glasses aren't much of a disguise. Good to know Alex agrees.

Alex: My parents always relied on me to watch over my sister, so the few times that I ever did anything for myself, it ended badly. And then Supergirl went missing and I just blew a gasket...
Maggie: Because Supergirl's your sister.
Alex: What are you talking about?
Maggie: Come on. Look, I know you. The only person you get that torn up over is Kara. Plus the glasses don't help.
Alex: I always said that too. It's kind of ridiculous.

I'm glad Maggie knows, but part of me feels there's a missed opportunity for a "Maggie is jealous of Supergirl" story line. That could have been fun.

It is kind of funny that Maggie figured out Supergirl's secret already, and Kara still hasn't figured out that James is Guardian. Alex said she wants no secrets between her and Maggie, but she still hasn't told Kara about James, or made him tell her.

We've seen in the past what happens when the sisters keep secrets from each other. It doesn't end well.

It will come out eventually.

I'm curious how J'onn will handle Winn being James' side kick. Being that he is a DEO employee, I can't really see J'onn being too supportive of it.

Though, after his trip to Slaver's Moon, Winn might be asking J'onn for a promotion to field agent pretty soon.

Winn - Supergirl Season 2 Episode 9

All it took was a black eye for Winn to up and quit the vigilante lifestyle, but taking down an alien with a rock was enough for him to do a complete 180.

He clearly has not thought any of this through, but he's feeling the rush.

Watching him strut out of James' office was just so dorky and sweet, and just so totally Winn.

Alex and Mon-El - Supergirl Season 2 Episode 9

Okay, so I think we can all agree that Mon-El is definitely the prince right?

Between the aliens bowing down to him, and he himself saying that the prince wasn't someone he admired, it seems like a safe assumption.

I have a feeling his secret is going to come out in the worst way possible when these mysterious aliens finally track him down. They've got his location narrowed down to Earth now, so it's only a matter of time until they find him.

Granted, Earth is pretty big, so he might be okay for a little bit. Still, it's time to tell Kara the truth.

Those two are just as adorable as Alex and Maggie, but also like them, they can't have a successful relationship with secrets between them.

Kara: What are you doing here?
Mon-El: Oh, I took the day off.
Kara: It's your second day.
Mon-El: Yeah, didn't want to over due it. So, lunch?

Bartending at the alien bar is the perfect gig for him. He definitely has the alcohol part down, but might need a little bit more training on the mixers. Every superhero needs a day job, and now that he's going to be a superhero, he has his.

I can't wait to see what awesome suit Winn designs for him.

Hopefully between Mon-El, Guardian, and J'onn, it doesn't get too crowded in the hero department.

So far they're doing a good job of keeping Kara front and center, especially with J'onn taking a backseat this week (though, he definitely gets points for the sun grenade).

Kara needs her team behind her, but I think it makes sense to alternate who steps up on a weekly basis.

The only real disappointment I had was the very minimal amount of Roulette. She had a limited amount of screen time, and didn't really do much with it. Her goons did all the work.

Roulette is Back - Supergirl Season 2 Episode 9

Some final thoughts:

  • James actually wrote a story on Guardian. Seriously, how has Kara not figured it out yet?
  • I loved the alien that came back to Earth with them. Here's hoping he becomes a regular at the bar.
  • I will never get tired of watching Alex fight. Her "Oh I got dibs" on the gun was priceless.

Your turn. Are you as excited as I am that Supergirl is back? Hit the comments!

Supergirl Season 2 Episode 9 Quotes

Kara: What are you doing here?
Mon-El: Oh, I took the day off.
Kara: It's your second day.
Mon-El: Yeah, didn't want to over due it. So, lunch?

Alex: Okay, what's bothering you? And it's not Guardian.
Kara: Who says anything's bothering me?
Alex: Crinkle.
Kara: [Gasps] Crinkle. I'm going to get Botox for that. If you can figure out a way to get a needle in my skin, I mean.
