No more need to worry about the near-future fate of your favorite Salemites, Fanatics, as Days of Our Lives has been renewed for Season 52!

NBC made the announcement today.

The soap that started in the lovely year of 1965 as a half hour program and expanded to an hour 10 years later celebrated its 13,000 episode in January. How could they say no to more of that?

"We feel so privileged to be able to continue the remarkable legacy of Days of our Lives,” said Jennifer Salke, president of NBC Entertainment.

"We thank Ken Corday and his team for their incredible accomplishments and look forward to all the stories from Salem that will continue to unfold."

Corday shared, "It’s a great day in Salem! We’re pleased to announce that after more than 51 years in the hearts and homes of our amazing fans, Days of our Lives will continue to be part of the NBC family.

"We are grateful to our incredible network and longstanding partner Sony for their continued support, and we look forward to what the future will bring under the new creative direction of the show.

"I’m especially proud to be able to shepherd Days into the new season, continuing my parents' dream and the show’s legacy."

"Days of our Lives’ has a legacy of rich storytelling that has traveled across generations," said Steve Kent, senior executive vice president of programming at Sony Pictures Television.

"Ken Corday and the cast and crew continue to deliver dynamic storylines and unforgettable performances, and we are proud to continue to bring this award-winning series to audiences both in the U.S. and around the world."

We here at TV Fanatic love Days of Our Lives and recap it weekly.

There is more drama than even one person can handle, so that's not even the only feature we do on the amazing, soapy program.

We also have weekly Days of Our Lives Round Tables so you are never out of touch with the great soap opera that will now be on the air for a record 52 years.

Anna, Carrie, and Austin - Days of Our Lives

Do you have favorite families and characters in Salem?

A show with this amount of historical depth allows for so many stories to come and go, for characters long forgotten to return, such as Carrie and Austin and Carrie's mother, Anna, who recently found herself in trouble.

Granted, nobody really wanted to help Anna, and she was more of a byproduct of helping Marlena than anything else, but that's how the quirky path of soap operas for you!

Soap and their five-day year around format eventually become like family.

You don't always like them, but they're a part of you, and even if you wouldn't necessarily invite them to the family dinner, you wouldn't want to miss an opportunity to talk about them behind their back's either!

And you have to admit, where else would you find characters who can live and die multiple times, in the most surprising of ways, but still pop up again?

Even if the actor is no longer interested in the role or dies (RIP), it doesn't matter. Magical facelifts and body morphs make magic the likes we'll never understand possible in the world of soaps.

They're addictive and so very wonderful.

Good job on keeping the show alive, TV Fanatics, because it's faithful viewers like you who keep shows like Days of Our Lives going.

Share your favorite Days' moments in the comments below and who you hope will be featured in the upcoming season.

Do you wish this had been a double-year renewal? What would make you tune in more faithfully every day?
