Well, that was an interesting, ahem, twist on the classic story of Oliver. 

Instead of orphans being taught to pickpocket, a group of impressionable teens was cajoled into the far more serious crime of bank robbery. 

Chicago PD Season 4 Episode 21 brought us a devastating, troubling story. It's one that will be sticking with Lindsay for awhile. 

A man that uses children to do his dirty work is down there with the lowest of the lows. 

Spann got out of prison on parole; he won his lawsuit, why couldn't he just leave well enough alone? 

That whole "those who can't do, teach" mentality does not need to apply to crippled men who can no longer rob banks. See, that's when most criminals would probably think about retirement. 

But no, instead, those poor kids got dragged down with him, and a few of them lost their lives because of it. 

Steve: I'm saying this case is a mess. You shot an African American teenager, who from the reports I've seen, never actually fired his weapon.
Lindsay: Are you kidding me? Have you ever looked down the barrel of an automatic weapon? No? Good.

Lindsay had no choice but to pull the trigger. It was her or him. 

She had no idea that there was only a 14-year-old boy behind that mask, and maybe that's a good thing. 

If she knew, would she have pulled the trigger? If she hesitated, she might be dead. 

A security guard from the bank was killed, so it's not like she had any reason to believe these were non-violent criminals. 

Still, it's tragic that it had to end that way, and it was incredibly tough watching his mother break down and lunging at her. 

At least she still has Jay to comfort her in her time of despair. 

Their relationship is confusing right now. Where do they stand? 

What was that ridiculous story Jay told her about the married couple who lived across the street from each other supposed to mean? He can't possibly think that's a viable solution to their problems. 

I wish we could get some insight into what is going on with them. All we know is he moved out (temporarily?) to sort things out with his wife. Can we get a status update on that, please?

How long does it take to get an annulment?

He clearly loves Lindsay. These two belong together. So what is he waiting for? Do what you gotta do and get your relationship back on track. 

Also, I would just like to point out that Will was not at his birthday party, which was odd, but that's neither here nor there. 

We were introduced to Detective Upton, who I assume was brought in to fill the female quota while Burgess is on maternity leave. She certainly did not make the greatest of first impressions, nor did she come off as a team player.

Spilling coffee all over Platt was not a great way to start the day. 

Still, she redeemed herself when she agreed to work with Intelligence, and even managed some witty banter with the guys. Something tells me she'll fit right in, and if she doesn't, well, Burgess will be back next season anyway. 

So far, I like her dynamic with Voight, especially the way she can see right through him. 

What you did for Corey Jenkins, protecting him by denying his confession, I don't know many, if any, cops that would do that.

It was her first case with him, and she's treated to the softer side of Voight, the side we rarely see. 

She got to see the guy who convinced a kid not to testify for his own protection, despite what it meant to the case. What is she going to do when she sees the Voight we're used to the other 99% of the time?

If this is the guy she thinks he is, she's in for a treat when he inevitably goes too far in an interrogation and beats the crap out of a suspect. 

How she handles that will be the real key as to whether she can roll with this team or not. 

But Voight protecting that kid was a pretty solid thing to do. Were you surprised by it? I honestly wasn't expecting that. It sucks that it means Spann will only go away for two more years at most, but it was the right thing to do for Corey. 

If he had testified, he most likely would have had to go into Witness Protection. 

Upton's connection to Platt felt a little out of left field, but it was touching all the same. 

It's a little surprising that Upton wouldn't have sought out the woman who was the reason she became a cop at some point once she joined the force. She knew her name; it wouldn't have been that hard to track her down and pay her a visit.
