The Originals Season 4 Episode 10 Review: Phantomesque

Will Hayley be able to stay with Elijah now that she's witnessed him at his worst?

That was one of the bigger questions we were left with after The Originals Season 4 Episode 10, which found her entering the pendant to find him.

I was not a fan of the whole pendant plot. It chugged along at a very slow place and pretty much confirmed that Freya only gave a damn about her siblings.

Should I Help You? - The Originals Season 4 Episode 10

It's understandable that she would want to reunite her family, but considering the danger Hayley found herself in, was it a wise decision to send Hope in after her? Yes, Freya understands that Hope is powerful as hell, but how could she have been sure Hope was going to save the day?

It was very convenient that Hope made her way in and her magic helped Elijah see the light. The Originals has a knack for killing off characters, and I was not ruling out Hayley dying at the hands of Elijah.

It's common on TV that a character is killed off after sudden focus on their backstory.

Hayley has been at the forefront of The Originals Season 4, so I'm thankful the powers that be did not opt to kill her.

The show would not be the same without her, and I did not want to see the look on Hope's face when she learned that her mother was dead. It would have been way worse if Elijah killed her. Could you imagine the division amongst the family?

Throwback Thursday? - The Originals Season 4 Episode 10

It was surprising we never got a scene with Hayley confronting Freya for sending Hope into the pendant. What's going to be interesting for me is how Hayley reacts to the possibility of Marcel being used as a sacrifice to bring Elijah back to life.

It was only a few weeks ago Hayley had that chat with Elijah about not killing others in the name of saving the family.

If you watch The Originals online, you will already know just how relentless Freya can be when it comes to doing things to benefit her family. She would sacrifice an entire town without so much as taking a second to think about it.

The opening scene of the episode was riveting. I completely forgot about the sire link, so I was wondering what the heck was going on when all of the vampires were dropping like flies. The reaction on Rebekah's face as she got the sudden realization her brother was dead was heartbreaking.

Help Me? - The Originals Season 4 Episode 10

For shame, Elijah, ruining parties from the afterlife.

Rebekah getting to see that Marcel had moved on was sad. Once upon a time, she was madly in love with Marcel, and now he's moved on from battling for her affections.

Rebekah and Marcel will always have a strong connection, no matter how shitty things get between Marcel and the family. Rebekah handing over the stake was not all that surprising. She understood her ex was fighting for love.

I am so done with Marcel vs. The Mikaelsons and all of the crap that comes from it. Marcel knows at some point he's going to need to join forces with the family if they have any hope of ridding New Orleans of The Hollow.

Marcel has come into his own this year, but please, for the love of god, put the feuding to bed. It's tiring.

Another thing that pissed me off was Danielle Campbell's name in the opening credits. It spoiled her big return at the end of the episode for me. I'm all for some more of Davina on our screens on a weekly basis, but I would have liked it to have been a shock.

Reunited at Last - The Originals

Let's talk about how quickly The Hollow managed to bring Davina back. It was, like, a millisecond. It was like Christmas for Kol. Props to The Hollow for linking herself to Davina. That makes the fight to take her down more involved.

Considering Danielle Campbell is still billed as a guest, I'm assuming she's only going to be around for a short while. I don't think I can deal with her dying all over again. Poor Kol. At least he got his wish after the witches attacked him and stole the dark objects.

"Phantomesque" was not my favorite episode of The Originals, but it did successfully set up the drama for the final three episodes of the season. It was Daniel Gillies' directorial debut and leaned heavily on the visuals.

Getting to revisit the memories was cool. My favorite one was the scene with Hayley meeting back up with Elijah after five years. That one got me.

Over to you, The Originals Fanatics! What did you think of the episode?

The Originals Season 4 Episode 10 Quotes

I've never told you, but over countless years you've meant so much to me. You've been a redeemer, a confidante, a rival and a friend. And at times, yes, you've been a royal pain in the arse. Now, look at you. I am so sorry, my brother. This will not be your end.

Hayley: Please tell me that you can do this?
Freya: He's my brother. I'm not going to stop until he's safe.
