Blue Bloods went straight for the jugular on its season premiere on Friday night.
This blindsided viewers because there was no confirmation about Carlson's exit before the show returned.
If you watch Blue Bloods online, you will know that it all played out initially with vague references while Danny attended therapy.
The twist itself was very well executed, and it kept viewers on their toes throughout the tearjerker of an episode which focused on Danny's efforts to move on with his life in the aftermath of events.
Carlson had been part of the series since it premiered in 2010, so fans were rocked by the events that transpired.
Amy opened up about her departure from the hit Friday night drama in a statement she shared on social media shortly after the episode aired.
“My heart is full of gratitude to each of you for your generous support of me and my character for the last seven years…I loved playing Linda: wife to Danny, mother to Jack and Sean, nurse and working mom," she dished.
"I’m proud of my contribution to building this series…Mostly, I am grateful to the fans who have supported me and the show.”
Donnie Wahlberg also took to social media to throw in his two cents on the matter and honored the wonderful Jennifer Esposito in the process.
"In my 35 yr acting/singing career - I've worked w some great talents. @TheAmyCarlson & @JennifersWayJE are two of the greatest! #BlueBloods!" he shared on Twitter.
It feels like eons ago that Jennifer was on the show. She departed way back on Blue Bloods Season 3 and never looked back.
