Supergirl Season 3 Episode 5 Review: Damage

at .  Updated at .

Will the real Lena Luthor please stand up?

Lena has always fought hard to prove that she is not like the rest of her family, but her Luthor side very nearly came out to play.

If she hadn't been knocked out on Supergirl Season 3 Episode 5, would she have pulled the trigger?

Lena and Kara vs. Edge - Supergirl Season 3 Episode 5

Chances are she would not have gone through with it. Despite her name and her genes, Lena is good, and while like all of us she may have a dark side, she also knows where to draw the line.

Supergirl wanted vengeance too, but Morgan wasn't scared. He may be right that she'll never kill him, but that doesn't mean he has nothing to fear. Lena and Supergirl are not enemies you want to have.

It looks like Morgan's going to continue to be a pain in the ass throughout Supergirl Season 3

He still reminds me a little of Maxwell Lord, but he's even more ruthless and despicable. Max wouldn't have made a bunch of innocent kids deathly ill just to create a PR nightmare for Supergirl.

Morgan got away with it this time, but he'll get his eventually. He's messing with the wrong women.

Morgan: You need help, Lena, 'cause you're not thinking clearly.
Lena: I'm thinking like a Luthor.

Lena was an absolute bad-ass throughout the whole ordeal.

Most people would wake up on that plane and immediately panic, but she was impressively clear-headed. She was willing to sacrifice herself if necessary but instead had the strength to climb out of the side of a plane and launch herself at Supergirl. That takes guts.

She definitely belongs at the hero's table, lead bomb or no lead bomb.

Sam and Kara - Supergirl Season 3 Episode 5

I love the trio of Kara, Lena, and Sam so far.

It doesn't get much better than three brilliant, strong women supporting each other no matter what. We know it won't last forever, but we should enjoy it while we can.

PIece by piece, little by little, we are uncovering more and more details about Sam.

We now know she's bulletproof, just like Kara. Will she eventually discover she has other similar abilities as Supergirl? We already know she possesses super strength, or at least, the potential for it.

How long until she unlocks the key and learns how to control her powers?

Better yet, how long will it be until someone other than Ruby notices something is amiss?

Lena: You know, you're terrible at hiding things from me.
Kara: [under her breath] I wouldn't be so sure of that.

It would be pretty funny if Lena figured out Sam's secret before learning Kara's. It's probably not going to happen, but it would be kind of crazy if it did.

Eventually, Sam is going to transform fully into the villain Reign. I just hope she doesn't end up teaming up with Morgan Edge in any way. Let's keep the two villains separate, especially considering I'm counting on Reign being much more compelling.

It stands to reason that Lena could find herself in the middle of Sam and Kara at some point, but as long as she's in the dark about their secret identities, she probably won't be caught in the crosshairs of Supergirl and Reign, though anything is possible.

A lot depends on what exactly it is that turns Sam to the dark side. Will Lena be involved? Will Ruby? It's safe to say Supergirl will be, but how is anybody's guess at this point. We will just have to be patient.

Sanvers Break Up - Supergirl Season 3 Episode 5

Well, it happened.

Sanvers is officially over.

The actual break up was quick. After laying the groundwork over a few weeks, they just ripped off the band-aid. While it was obviously sad and difficult to watch, it didn't feel as devastating as I expected it to be, most likely because they prepared us for it.

Of course, it wasn't quite that simple, and they ended up sharing one last night together before officially saying goodbye.

That's probably for the best. They ended things with a happy memory and now have closure knowing there was no way to salvage the relationship without one of them giving up something important.

I was almost a little annoyed with Maggie when she asked Alex if she was sure she wanted to give all of this up for kids (as if that wasn't a good enough reason), but Alex's explanation hit it home for her.

She had to realize that asking Alex to give up her desire to be a mom would be selfish, and eventually, she would just end up resenting her for it.

It would be great if they could find a way to be friends someday, but it's going to be too painful for a while.

Hard Conversation - Supergirl Season 3 Episode 5

Lucky for Alex, she has a sister who knows just what she needs. A trip home to Eliza and a few days away from the bed she shared with Maggie should help a little.

Kara's finally putting her pieces back together after losing Mon-El, and now it's Alex who feels broken. Some time away should do them both some good, but we all know some drama will undoubtedly occur while they are there.

Are you guys looking forward to Alex and Kara's trip home to Midvale? Was the Sanvers break up not as brutal as you thought?

Don't forget, you can always watch Supergirl online anytime!
