The Gifted Season 1 Episode 7 Review: eXtreme measures

at .

The latest chapter on The Gifted was all about intensity between multiple relationships while Eclipse had to return to his dark past.

But things don't get easier as we learned as more emerged about the enemy on The Gifted Season 1 Episode 7.

Polaris Is Not Happy - The Gifted Season 1 Episode 7

Being someone who watched a lot of the DC TV shows on The CW, I don't get a lot of variation when it comes to relationship drama, especially when it comes to comic book shows.

However, with The Gifted Season 1, we get a little different taste. We had several relationships on "eXtreme measures" that went through their share of drama but in a mature way.

I always had a hunch that something was up with that Wes kid. He connected way too fast with Lauren previously, always suspicious in my book.

But I appreciate the fact that Wes wasn't a straight-up bad boy in disguise. When you're dealing with a show like The Gifted, I expect characters to do questionable things for survival.

In this case, Wes got kicked out of his home as a teenager, so what's he supposed to do? It would have been a cliche if he had been revealed to be the typical damaged teenager.

But the stronger aspect of that conflict was Reed getting a necessary wake-up call. Since The Gifted started, we have seen Reed more as the prosecutor and Barley as the dad.

Brooding Reed Is Brooding - The Gifted Season 1 Episode 7

In "eXtreme measures," Caitlin gives him the perfect line that I think a lot of us have wanted to say to Reed. Less prosecutor, more daddy! At least when it comes to his kids.

I even enjoyed the moment he had with Wes where he kept an open mind and acted as a father figure. It made me connect with Reed as a character which hasn't been the case for most of the season.

Speaking of drama, let's get into the thing with Eclipse. The man went behind his girlfriend's back, and he got the reaction he deserved. I felt pretty much the same as Polaris when she got pissed.

While this isn't being set up as a traditional triangle, Carmen is, without doubt, the third wheel here. It wouldn't shock me, though, if she eventually started fighting back to get Eclipse on her side again.

Ideally, I would prefer if we didn't get a romantic triangle because, well, why? I don't come to comic book shows for relationship drama, and hopefully, The Gifted isn't going that path.

For the first time in a while this season, the enemies stepped up. It wasn't thanks to the Sentinel Services or Jace, as I'm still bored with that side of The Gifted.

Roderick Is Stepping Up - The Gifted Season 1 Episode 7

Roderick Campbell is a different story though. "eXtreme measures" name-drops a few intriguing comic Easter Eggs that will play significant roles on the show.

I knew, at some point, Trask Industries would get mentioned on The Gifted in one way or another. After all, Bolivar Trask did create the Sentinels that some of you may remember if you saw X-Men: Days of Future Past.

I doubt Peter Dinklage will show up anytime soon though mostly because of, you know, that Game of Thrones thing. In addition to that, it would make more sense for Larry Trask, Bolivar's son, to show up given that this is in present time.

What I didn't expect to hear was Reed's bomb that his dad worked for Trask Industries! This is what I was expecting from the Sentinel Services as the antagonist when The Gifted started.

Roderick continues to be the better villain, and I'm expecting him to get better. I wouldn't be shocked if Jace eventually turns to the good side as he apparently doesn't seem to be down with Roderick's methods.

Unless I missed it in a previous episode, we also got the mention of the Hounds! Remember that weird tattoo we saw a while back on Pulse's wrist?

Strucker Family Dinner - The Gifted Season 1 Episode 7

I can't wait to see how deep they go with the threats of the Hound and Trask Industries. But I'm digging the fact that we're getting more comic book elements as the season progresses.

Overall, "eXtreme measures" was one of the better dramatic episodes for The Gifted Season 1 thus far. It was mostly good for the Strucker family as it helped their dynamic quite a bit.

Now it's your turn to let us know what you thought of The Gifted Season 1 Episode 7! What did you think of Eclipse/Polaris conflict?

Did you enjoy the Strucker focus? What do you think of Roderick Campbell's methods?

Don't think of them as spies. Think them more as weapons. All we have to do is get them inside. The Hounds will take it from there.
