Well, this just got interesting.

The Vampire Diaries' Michael Malarkey has joined the cast of History's upcoming series, Blue Book.

Deadline first reported the exciting news and notes that Malarkey will be a series regular on the 10-episode series which is expected to hit the air sometime in 2018.

According to the report, the series "chronicles the true top secret U.S. Air Force-sponsored investigations into UFO-related phenomena in the 1950s and ’60s, known as “Project Blue Book.”

Malarkey is on board to play Captain Michael Quinn, "A decorated WWII hero."

Quinn is tasked with running Project Blue Book, which is an Air Force division that investigates UFO phenomena.

He will struggle to play nice with his Blue Book partner, Dr. Allen Hynek (Aidan Gillen).

Gillen was cast on the show earlier this year along with Laura Mennell, Michael Harney, and Ksenia Solo.

Aidan Gillen Attends Premiere.

It sure sounds like an exciting enough series, but it does seem like an odd pick for History.

Like most networks, the cable network will likely be trying to branch out for the norm in the hopes of some increased ratings.

Malarkey is probably best known for his role on The Vampire Diaries, which he starred in from 2013 to 2017.

Since he exited the supernatural drama, he has been focusing on his music career and released his first studio album earlier this year.
