Grey's Anatomy is not coming to a close anytime soon on ABC.

According to Deadline, series star, Ellen Pompeo has extended her contract with ABC studios for two more years, meaning she will stick around for Grey's Anatomy Season 15 and 16 if they are ordered at the network.

It's hard to imagine the network parting ways with the veteran medical drama. Grey's Anatomy Season 14 is currently averaging 7.9 million viewers and a 2.1 rating among adults 18-49.

That means the show is ABC's highest-rated series in the advertiser-craved demographic. Given that ABC is set to launch a firefighter spinoff of the series, it means the network still wants to keep the brand alive.

The new pact means that Pompeo will be a producer effective from midway through the current season. Also, she has been added as a co-executive producer of the spinoff.

The deal is said to earn the star upwards of $550,000 per episode, which will very likely make Pompeo the highest actress in television.

“The show’s hugely successful for Disney, for ABC, so everybody’s incentivized to keep it going,” Pompeo said about the decision to stay put with the resilient medical drama.

Pompeo also cites Krista Vernoff, who rejoined the series as new showrunner this season as being part of the reason for the show's return to form this season.

“I was really excited of having a whole completely new fresh voice to write the show,” Pompeo said. “The writing is a lot smarter, and I love what she’s doing. Everybody does actually, the actors are so happy, they’re so energized.”

When asked whether it would be two seasons to end the show, Ellen said the following:

“I’ve been saying since season one, ‘We have two more years,' she dished. "This show, it’s taking on a life of its own, and who knows? We take it season by season really.”
