The Mayor Canceled at ABC!

The Mayor will not be returning to ABC's schedule in the near future.

The alphabet network has opted to pull the remaining episodes from the schedule in favor of airing reruns of Modern Family

The Mayor 3

Modern Family's encore from earlier this week achieved higher numbers than The Mayor Season 1's average in the slot in the fall.

The news is a little bit surprising when you consider the fact that ABC ordered three backup scripts for the series back in November.

Despite so-so ratings, the series received solid reviews from critics, and some shows can get by on acclaim alone.

The Mayor focused on a rapper named Courtney Rose who runs for mayor and wins. Courtney had no intention of actually winning, but he thought the publicity would be good for his career.

The Mayor 1

The comedy started when the character won the election and became the mayor of Fort Grey.

Its talented cast included the likes of Brandon Michael Hall, Lea Michele, Bernard David Jones, Marcel Spears and Yvette Nicole Brown.

Being the only ABC freshman comedy launch this fall, all eyes were on it to see if it could defy the odds and emerge as a hit out of black-ish.

The Mayor 2

Even though ABC has given the show the pink slip, it may not be over yet. Producers are reportedly shopping the series around, and Hulu is said to be the most likely home because the network already has stacking rights to show's first season.

This is ABC's second cancellation of the season, and it comes months after the network canceled Kyra Sedgwick's Ten Days in the Valley

Like The Mayor, Ten Days in the Valley suffered from low ratings.
