Lucifer Season 3 Episode 23 Review: Quintessential Deckerstar

Has the Quintessential Deckerstar curse finally been broken?

If faith and belief were the only components necessary, then what occurred on Lucifer Season 3 Episode 23 indicates that Chloe is on board with Lucifer's truth.

Using her name to explain quite simply he is the Devil after earlier assuring a freaked Charlotte he could say whatever he wanted because Chloe never believes him anyway might have finally done the trick.

Is Redemption in the Cards? - Lucifer Season 3 Episode 23

It's too bad Chloe won't have the opportunity to share with Charlotte how she could help her redeem herself. Or maybe the final nail in Forrest's coffin was the plan Chloe had in mind.

It obviously worked, to some degree, to get Charlotte what she most desired: redemption in the eyes of God.

As Amenadiel told Maze, it's never too late to ask for forgiveness and get the ball rolling, and he'll be there for her when she needs him.

Amenadiel: Why did you do that? Why did you jump in front of me like that?
Charlotte: Wasn't for myself. Was redemption. Will you, will you stay with me?
Amenadiel: Yes, yes. I promise. [Amenadiel has his wings back] Let's go home.

He made the same promise to Charlotte, and she was carried straight to heaven in the arms of an angel she's lucky enough to call her friend.

From the moment the episode began, it was obvious we would be saying goodbye to Charlotte.

Charlotte and Amenadiel were featured prominently in the trailer and the flashbacks in the "previously on" section spelled out her death in bold lettering.

Her nightmare and Dan's happiness only added to the evidence mounting up against her future survival.

Why can't Dan have pretty things? I don't think there will be a renewal for Lucifer, but my hope is Kevin Alejandro gets to lead a show of his own and show off the considerable skills we've come to enjoy from him on Lucifer.

He doesn't need to be a side character, nor a strange bad guy on a comic show. He easily has enough charisma and comedic timing to be front and center on a dramedy. Maybe another ensemble if someone isn't ready to bank on him solo. But let's see that happen.

He's given me a Jason Ritter vibe as the series has grown, and that's a compliment.

He's always done something different when his latest role ends, so whether he's moving up the ladder on another season of Lucifer or striking out on his own, he's earned an upgrade.

Dan was so excited with his gifts for Charlotte. Both of them were good because they came from the heart. The waffle maker was better in my eyes not because it's not jewelry, but because he'd be making breakfast for the woman he loves and it was a promise to spend time with her.

As a couple, they were just getting to know each other and finding out what would make them tick.

Charlotte and Lucifer Season 3 Episode 23

Meanwhile, Lucifer was banking on finding his way back to who he had been with Chloe in the past.

Unlike everybody else, I don't believe for a second he thinks the things he does will work. He's afraid of being hurt so he stuffs inside what he knows what will work in the hope he can skate his way to a happy ending.

Instead, he hurts the woman he loves and gets no satisfaction out of his desire for her.

Until he finally put all of the pieces together: what Linda told him, recalling Chloe wondering if he was making fun of the times they shared that she had enjoyed very much, and he put it out there.

Lucifer: Right now, I can't show you, so I'm just going to have to tell you. Detective, Chloe, I am the Devil.
Chloe: No, you're not. Not to me. [she kisses him]

Her response couldn't have been what he expected, and he'll surely analyze the hell out of it, especially since Charlotte was killed and Amenadiel is gone having had his wings restored.

If all goes well, we'll see Lucifer's restored so he can take Cain to hell.

Maze found a bit of redemption when she listened to Amenadiel, refused to go along with Cain's plan and then realized the importance of Linda in her life when she wouldn't kill Cain if it meant Linda got hurt in the process.

Quintessential Deckerstar Right Here - Lucifer Season 3 Episode 23

Cain knew she cared more for her friend than she let on and it worked out for him. But when Maze discovers what happened as a result, she's going to be all out for Cain. And Lucifer is going to be incredibly upset, as well, to learn either of them had Amenadiel on the chopping block.

He may have issues with his brother, but none of what happened will sit well with Lucifer. Do you think it will be Lucifer taking care of Cain and Maze, perhaps shuttling them both back to hell for what they've done, that will give Chloe the visual proof she needs to believe Lucifer?

Or does she not need it at all now?

She may not need to see anything to believe Lucifer is the king of Hell. She could accept him as the once fallen angel who still rules Hell because someone has to preside over the damned. It wouldn't shock me.

This was a far cry better than anything we've seen during most of Lucifer Season 3, but the best parts, again, were focused elsewhere. The side characters were incredibly moving. It will be hard to lose Charlotte and see the damage done to Dan.

What do you think the finale will hold?
