Quantico Season 3 Episode 6 Review: The Heavens Fall

at . Comments

This is a mixed bag of an episode.

Quantico Season 3 Episode 6 is difficult to review because some aspects of the hour were nicely done, but then it made one horrible mistake that taints the whole hour.

Should we start with the good first?

Deadly Consequences - Quantico

Seeing things from Jocelyn's point of view when she's taken is a great way to build up suspense. The lack of sound and vision when we saw things through the hood put you on the edge of your seat. It was impossible not to be tense.

Then, there's the time jump of sorts. It's good for the suspense, but it's hard to figure out how everyone got to that point.

Sure, we saw Jocelyn taken, but we have no idea how Alex and Celine ended up in cages. Later on, we learned that Leon turned them in, so we can piece together what likely happened.

Quantico Season 3 Episode 6 Alex and Mike

That would have been okay if we didn't then jump to a character dying.

We don't get to see Celine's last moments. We don't get to watch her and Alex fight against being taken hostage or initially wake up in the cages. Instead, we cut to the bag being taken off Celine's head, and that's how we learned she died.

Celine did not deserve to die like that. She's brushed off as if she was a random character of the week.

There's shock surrounding the reveal that Jocelyn killed her, and you sat there hoping that this is all a trick.

Alex: Celine, have you ever run a triangle before?
Celine: Yeah, at Quantico.
Alex: We just pulled 7 dead bodies out of a burned out house. This is not Quantico.

It's not.

Celine, a young woman with a bright career ahead of her, was just killed for shock value. She didn't get a good death. She didn't go out heroically.

Were we supposed to be satisfied by Shelby saying, "she fought like hell?" Shelby didn't see the fight, so we're judging this off of the wounds on Celine's body. It's not okay.

Celine's barely even fleshed out as a character.

We do what we do, and sometimes the heavens fall.

Frank

Think about it. We barely know anything about Celine. She's a newbie agent. Yup, that's about all we know.

Celine was treated as a plot device, not a character.

All her death did was make everyone realize how high the stakes were and cause Jocelyn to blame herself.

It's hard to feel the weight of a character's death when you barely know the character. The only sad part about Celine's death is that they killed her off in such a horrible way.

Also, it's worth pointing out that the show just killed off one of the few women characters it has. It's a male-dominated team, and it's awful that they had to kill off a woman. Now, Alex, Shelby, and Jocelyn are completely outnumbered.

At the beginning of "The Heavens Fall," there's a sense of excitement when Celine stood up for herself against Alex, Mike, and Shelby. It was the rookie vs. the vets.

Honestly, it was about time this kind of tension happened.

That fight instilled hope that maybe the hour would feature some field lessons courtesy of Alex and Mike. Maybe Deep would jump in saying that he and Celine can hold their own.

This could have been an hour filled with team building. There could have been more arguing and then some bonding. It had such great promise, but instead of focusing on that route, the case led to Celine's death.

Here's your problem. You've got rules, and you brought them to a neighborhood that ain't got none.

Dante

What did you think about Celine's death?

While it's not hard to understand why Jocelyn would want to kill Dante, you don't actually root for her to do it.

They're all FBI agents. They are the law, so seeing them kill someone in cold blood was hard to watch.

Alex handed Jocelyn the gun. No one tried to talk Jocelyn down. Odds are, this will all get swept under the rock.

Yeah, they are a black ops team, but they are still FBI. They should still follow the rules that, assumedly, every federal agent follows. It would have been a win of sorts for Dante to be arrested, but it wouldn't have taken our team down an immoral path.

Were you happy that Jocelyn killed Dante? I'm curious to know if I'm the only one upset by it.

Stray Thoughts:

  • It's frustrating that Jocelyn doesn't trust the team, especially when she has no reason to.

  • Was anyone else expecting Frank to be the bad guy? How else would Dante know to send the "clear eyes" text?

  • I still can't believe they killed Celine. Sorry, still stuck on that.
