WWE SmackDown: Officially Moving to Fox!

The rumors are true!

Fox will have even less scripted content on its schedule in 2019. The network will be airing WWE Smackdown effective from October next year.

It will join the network's Friday night line-up and will air 52 weeks per year for at least five years, meaning scripted content will likely be leaving Fridays on Fox when the deal kicks in.

"We are thrilled to welcome WWE to the Fox Sports family and bring SmackDown Live to broadcast television,” said Eric Shanks, President, COO and Executive Producer of Fox Sports.

“We are huge fans and know that together Fox Sports will be the leader in live events for the foreseeable future.”

Fox's plans for fall 2018 include the revival of Last Man Standing airing with new comedy series, The Cool Kids. Hell's Kitchen has been confirmed to be closing the night.

If the two comedies emerge as success stories, Fox will have to make some big decisions because it could mean the bulk of programming could be made up of unscripted offerings.

The network also has the rights to Thursday Night Football for 2018-19, so there's a good chance there will be no scripted content on Thursdays and Fridays on the network in fall 2019.

WWE Smackdown originally bowed on UPN back in 1999. It has also aired on MyNetworkTV and Syfy before landing at current home, USA Network.
