Riverdale: Who Are Cassidy Bullock, and Cult-Leaders Edgar and Evelyn Evernever?

at .

When Riverdale resumes for its third season on October 10th, you can expect to see a few new faces in the mysterious small town.

And given that the bulk of the series has focused on murders, you shouldn't be too shocked when I tell you not all of the new folks in town have good intentions for our favorite Serpents and/or honorary Serpents.

Edgar Evernever - Riverdale

You may remember that at the end of Riverdale Season 2, Polly offered to introduce her mom Alice to a man from the farm that she credited with helping her cope with Jason Blossom’s death.

She hoped that Edgar Evernever, the "health-guru," would be able to help Alice forgive Hal, her estranged husband, who was famously revealed as the Black Hood. Or at least one of them.

The series has remained elusive about the farm that Polly escaped to to give birth to her twins; however, during her return on Riverdale Season 2 Episode 22, something seemed off with her.

She was too accepting of the fact that good 'ole dad murdered a bunch of people in town, and kind of shrugged upon finding out that he tried to murder her mom and sister too.

It didn't take long for us to figure out that the "health-guru" is code for "cult-leader" at the farm that's brainwashing all of its sketchy followers including Polly.

Cult Life - Riverdale

Edgar is being described as "attractive, in a neighborly way, and charismatic—a wise, comforting presence," which seems like someone Alice would be naturally drawn too after such a devastating time in her life.

This is coming from a place of love -- Alice is the last person who needs to get messed up with something this dark and twisted. Hasn't she been through enough with all the Hal and Chic drama?

In the Riverdale Season 3 teaser trailer, Betty eavesdrops on her mother and sister as they perform some culty-ritual for Polly's twins, Juniper and Dagwood, so it seems like she does get caught up in it, even if briefly.

Don’t be too alarmed, if I have my way, which it seems I will, FP, with all his newfound freedom as a retired Serpent leader, will realize that something is amiss and come to Alice's aide.

In fact, actress Madchen Amick even teased that "Alice and FP might explore a few old habits."

And by old habits, we mean the ones that lead to Chic in the first place.

Hal may be behind bars for now, but we haven’t seen the last of him or dealt with all of his pent-up anger.

The Black Hood is now engrained in the mythology of this twisted little town, and showrunner Robert Aguirre-Sacasa teased that " there’s some ski mask out there that could pop up. "

High School Love - Riverdale

Is he referring to Hal? Or maybe Betty whose dark-side still has yet to be fully explored?

Betty will also be getting caught up in all this "farm" drama because along with Edgar comes his daughter Evelyn, who is described as a "bit odd" and a little too eager to befriend to town’s favorite blonde.

Like father, like daughter, right?

Evelyn is said to be harboring a dark secret about herself and if the casting call is any indication, having her be "physically reminiscent" of Betty is cause for concern.

Fans of the original Archie comics might remember Evelyn as Archie's kidnapper who was also his first kiss.

Archie's Arrest - Riverdale

I doubt they'd go the jealousy route here as TV Betty is more of a Jughead girl, but it could become a problem for another favorite couple, Veronica and Archie.

According to Camila Mendes, Archiekins and Ronnie will hit a bit of a rough patch.

"They are going to struggle in their relationship … and there might be someone else," Mendes told US Weekly.

It seems like the someone else she's referring to is a new male companion for Veronica.

In fact, it's unlikely that Archie will even have time to worry about his relationship status from his jail cell.

During the Riverdale Season 2 finale, the ginger-hunk got arrested for the murder of Cassidy Bullock; a cold and calculated move by Hiram Lodge who is hellbent on establishing his dominance in town and taking down his daughter's boyfriend after he stood up to him.

Who Is Cassidy Bullock? - Riverdale

And he does so without even lifting a finger and without any proof because he has a dedicated team on his payroll, including the new Sheriff in town, Sheriff Minetta.

The worst part is that we know for a fact sweet Archie didn’t kill anyone, and it was, in fact, Hiram’s gangster, Andre.

And there's absolutely no way Minetta was on the premises when Andre presumably fired the gun, but since Andre is also dead, it’s Archie’s word against Hiram’s.

The addition of Penelope Ann Miller, district attorney Ms. Wright, also paints a bleak outcome for Archie's fate. Do you think she's also on his payroll?

Prosecuting Attorney - Riverdale

Wright is described as a "savvy and eloquent" prosecuting attorney "with a conviction in mind, will weave together disparate moments of Archie’s young life to portray him as a dangerous, violent sociopath who is capable of committing a heinous crime."

If I'm honest, that doesn’t seem too challenging with all the dirt Hiram dug up on him.

Not to mention Archie served as his mobster henchman, aggressively attacked Nick St. Clair after he tried to come onto Veronica, is best friends with a gang leader, and hooked up with his teacher who ended up dead in a neighboring town.

There's also the obvious question: who was Shadow Lake resident Cassidy Bullock?

Veronica obviously recognized him at the convenience store since she spent lots of time at the cabin when she was younger, but based on what transpired on Riverdale Season 2 Episode 14 when he tried to rob the foursome at the cabin, we know he wasn’t a good guy.

And there’s the other obvious question: what is his relation to Hiram Lodge?

Did they have a former relationship similar to the one he had with Archie?

Fake Out Black Hood - Riverdale

A general rule of thumb for these kinds of shows is that if you don’t see the body, don’t assume they are dead.

I'm going to say that there's a high probability that Bullock is still alive and this was all part of Hiram’s “test” to see if Archie was good enough for his daughter.

Archie’s only saving grace might be the new Mayor in town -- Hermione Lodge.

She will be exercising her new power to stand up to her other half in a way that she hasn’t before now. And we all know she has a soft spot for the Andrews men.

With Veronica already defying her father, that sets the odds at two against one.

Archie may stand a chance, especially when sleuthing Serpent leader Jughead and his Queen, Betty, lend a helping hand. Jughead’s mission since Hiram came to town has been to eliminate him and his evil ways.

Riverdale Season 3 may be taking a darker approach, but there is a minuscule light at the end of the tunnel.

Rumor has it, ther will going to be a wedding between Sheriff Keller and Mayor McCoy.

Hey, this town can’t be all murders, hooded killers, cults, and gangs!

Jellybean! - Riverdale

Since Sheriff Keller is still married to his wife -- a woman who is busy serving our country while he’s running around town indulging in other women --  I would say there’s a solid chance we’ll get to meet her this season.

And speaking of fresh faces we’re dying to meet, Jughead’s mom and Jellybean will finally grace us with their presence!

Jughead’s mentioned them several times now so it would only make sense that they would stir up some drama right as FP and Alice rekindled their old high school romance.

Skeet Ulrich (FP Jones) told RiverCon Paris that we'd meet the rest of the fam "very soon in Season 3," so we're keeping him to his word.

Just imagine how many layers that would add in terms of keeping up with the Jones.

Riverdale Quotes

Alice: These diaries are your past, and your past is crushing you. Edgar says that...
Betty: What, Mom? What does some guru who’s running a heaven’s gate commune for pregnant runaways and wives of serial killers have to say about my diaries?
Alice: We know that you look down on the Farm, Betty. But, Edgar has done nothing but help me. He’s encouraged me to embrace everything that I was ashamed of and become the best version of myself.

Veronica: What's happening out there? Do we know? Is it about me?
Jughead: I have a strong inkling, and no. Also, I'd let it go.
Veronica: Yes, but you're you and I'm me. You do you, girl. I'll be back.
[She leaves]
Kevin: What was it like before she got here? I honestly cannot remember.
