How to Get Away with Murder Season 5 Episode 7 Review: I Got Played

WHO IS DYING IN THE SNOW?

This has been the central question of the beginning of this season and yet How to Get Away with Murder Season 5 Episode 7 is the first episode, aside from the first, that has really brought that question back into focus. Everything has lead us to this moment and it's just one of the compelling components of a particularly strong episode.

This may be the first season in which the big hashtag moment isn't even the most interesting aspect of the current storylines.

Miller In Court - How To Get Away With Murder Season 5 Episode 7

How To Get Away With Murder has a formula that it follows every single year and it surprisingly never feels stale. We get our shocking moment, followed by the flashforward teases and then we get the big reveal!

It sounds simple but it's hard to keep audiences entertained when they know what to expect. This show excels by giving us more than the status quo. This season we've gotten more of Bonnie's backstory, the Governor's agenda and the best story of all, Gabriel Maddox.

We all want to know whose bleeding out in the snow and we all want to know where Oliver is, but more than anything, I want Frank to open his mouth and tell us the good word about Gabriel!

Frank: Gabriel is Annalise's worst nightmare. Do you understand? End of discussion.
Laurel: You know what happened last year. I almost ruined everyone's life because I wanted to keep everything a secret.
Frank: We got through it.
Laurel: Christopher almost died! If not for Annalise, I would not have him. Please just tell her.

If we add up our Gabriel cheat sheet, at this point we can presume he is someone that isn't inserting himself into the Keating circle because he wants to be the best lawyer he can be.

Making the jump from Laurel to Michaela was calculated and it seems purely to get himself invited to Connor and Oliver's wedding. But it's still unclear what is driving him and what his endgame is.

Stone Cold Annalise - How To Get Away With Murder Season 5 Episode 7

This is the first time I can remember Frank making it crystal clear that Gabriel is going to bring Annalise a lot of pain once she learns the truth. You couple that information with news about an adoption that could ruin Annalise and we've got ourselves a grade A mystery!

I would say Gabriel is connected to this adoption, but I'm not sure what the adoption in question is. Please make sure to hit the comments with all the theories!

The Governor pulling that out of her hat continued to show that she was playing Annalise from the start. Or at least that's what we are being lead to believe.

It makes more sense that she would be looking to bring Annalise down and embarrass her than ever think about helping her. But the governor was a good enough actress to fool the very best.

Annalise was caught up in all the good she could do for so many, including herself, that she lost focus long enough to be played. She decided to sleep with the enemy and she paid the ultimate price.

But even with all that, Annalise had a chance to right at least one injustice. Unfortunately, she came up short after giving the closing argument of a lifetime.

Just give Viola Davis all the awards right now because the woman is a force of nature. We've seen her give passionate monologues and even play scenes beautifully without saying a word, but her plea on the stand was something we've never seen.

It was the words and emotions felt by so many people in this country, delivered in a manner that could not be ignored. It was chilling and powerful and it will stick with me forever.

This show has never shied away from taking a stand and it should be applauded for that.

To Nate Senior and the hope that someday we will live in a world that isn't always so terrible all the time.

Oliver

Preach, Oliver.

The world is a tough pill to swallow many days, but if there's one shining ray of hope in a dark, dark place, it's the love between the show's top couple. Remember when Connor was an annoying brat and almost ruined the best thing that ever happened to him?

I sure do. And boy am I glad those days are over and happier ones were born.

As we approach the wedding, let's all hope we aren't mourning one half of this couple. I grew increasingly worried about Oliver last week and nothing has been shown that makes those feelings any less prominent.

We've been worried about Oliver before, but is this the time our fears come true?

Everything Else You Need To Know

  • Bonnie, Bonnie, Bonnie. We know how Bonnie gets when she's upset and so it's definitely possible that her anger towards him pushed him over the edge and maybe he's the one bleeding out in the snow. By my calculations, I'm putting Nate's chances of biting the bullet at 10%.
  • Since it is clearly a man in the snow, the next likely suspect is poor Oliver, who is still unaccounted for, has gotten so much storyline and would be a devastating blow to everyone, similar to Wes's death. As much as it saddens me to say, the chances of Oliver biting the dust are at a steady 30%.
  • Miller has been my guess from the start and I have never waivered so I won't do it now! There is a 60% chance that Miller is dead in the snow, at the hand of one of the other missing people from the wedding. That's my final answer.

Okay, guys, I'm turning it over to you and I want all the reactions and predictions! Once and for all, who is dead in the snow? How does Gabriel fit into the murder? Who committed the murder if it wasn't Bonnie?

Drop a line down below so we can talk it all out! And watch How to Get Away with Murder online right this minute so you're ready for all the big reveals!
