The Good Doctor Season 2 Episode 10 Review: Quarantine

at .  Updated at .

Well, that was a wild fall finale.

A virus from Malaysia down the Emergency Room on The Good Doctor Season 2 Episode 10, and I wish I could say that was the only bad thing that happened.

The good thing here is that the virus storyline was not glossed over, and brushed under the rug in a matter of scenes. Giving these storylines time to breathe, while leaving us viewers on tenterhooks over the holidays was the best foot forward.

Saving a Life - The Good Doctor Season 2 Episode 10

The Emergency Room being quarantined was the best way to contain the virus, but it continued to spread. Three people were dead by the final scene, and our beloved Dr. Lim was at death's door.

Some characters are expendable on The Good Doctor, but Dr. Lim does not fall into that category. She's a breath of fresh air who has absolutely no qualms with calling people out on their BS.

Every show needs a Dr. Lim, but I'm not so sure she's going to make it out of The Good Doctor Season 2 Episode 11 alive. The virus was aggressive, and it wiped out three people who were being cared for by the hospital.

Lim: When did you start feeling sick?
Patient: On the plane. I've never even been outside the U.S. before. My ex-husband hated to travel...
Shaun: Was the man who died sitting near you?
Patient: No, he was 6 or 7 rows in front of me.
Lim: Were you ever physically close to him? Say, waiting for the restroom or in line to board?
Patient: No, I think he slept almost the entire flight.
Shaun: That suggests the virus can be transmitted through the air. Which means everyone in the plane and this emergency room has been exposed.

If the hospital struggled to save them, then what does that mean for the other people who were on the flight?

The possibilities are endless, and quite frankly, it's horrifying to think about. It was shocking just how quickly things intensified. I mean, we had Lim and Melendez waking up together at the top of the hour.

Dr. Lim Is Infected - The Good Doctor Season 2 Episode 10

That was a great twist. Even though they were drinking and sparks were flying at the close of The Good Doctor Season 2 Episode 9, I still expected them to keep it platonic.

Melendez definitely has stronger feelings for Lim than she does for him. The reaction on his face when he realized Lim was infected was telling.

That said, I thought Melendez and Browne would be the next big couple. There's been a connection between them since The Good Doctor Season 1 Episode 1, and it only seems to be getting stronger.

Reznick is a tough nut to crack, but inside is a soft center. Tyler didn't know whether he was going to live or die, so him asking the resident about a date was the only thing keeping him going.

Morgan's Decision - The Good Doctor Season 2 Episode 10

If you watch The Good Doctor online, you know that Reznick only recently opened up about her love for archery. For her to want that to be her first date with Tyler proved she was at ease with him and could see herself going on a date and liking it.

It's just a shame that Tyler died. What sucks is that Reznick didn't get any time to process that he died before she learned about Lim's condition.

This Emergency Room is under quarantine. Nobody's leaving.

Lim

Oh yes, The Good Doctor brought its A-Game to the party for the final episode of 2018. The series has been sorely lacking on the interpersonal relationship side of things of late.

But almost every character had a part to play in making this installment the series' finest hour yet.

I can't believe I've gotten this far without talking about what happened to Shaun. The moment he noticed overhead light emitting a noise, it was obvious something big was going to happen with it.

He was spiraling for much of "Quarantine." It was a high-stakes environment, and the light was seriously throwing him off his game.

Too Much Insulin? - The Good Doctor Season 2 Episode 10

I loved how it was illustrated on screen how it was messing with his thought process. Shaun is going to have a lot of explaining to do because of his patient having insulin shock.

I didn't want him to give the patient any more insulin and breathed a sigh of relief when he settled for 10 MG extra instead of 20 MG.

Shaun has long worried about whether being on the spectrum restricts him from being a good doctor, and this whole scenario is going to leave a bad taste in his mouth.

Lim: Put your mask back on.
Reznick: Why?
Lim: I'm infected.

There were a lot of balls in the air what with the virus, performing surgery in the Emergency Room and people dropping like flies left, right, and center, so I have no idea whether Andrews will take that into consideration when reviewing what happened.

Shaun did try to get the light fixed on multiple occasions, and several people witnessed him doing so, so there's that.

Lea's Pain - The Good Doctor Season 2 Episode 6

I rolled my eyes the moment Glassman told Lea to get him to the hospital to help out. He still feels like he has a duty of care to Shaun, but what he seems to forget is that he needs to look after himself.

Asking the nurse for the results instead of sending them to Dr. Blaize first was a big mistake, but he was desperate to know whether his cancer had returned.

After all of the heartbreak on "Quarantine," I figured Glassman would be making it out of the hour with good news, but the conclusion packed an emotional punch as we learned that Glassman was still sick.

"Quarantine" was a cleverly plotted episode of this ABC hit. There was a lot to love about it, and I can't wait to see where we pick up in 2019.

Other tidbits from the episode:

  • Melendez going against the wishes of his patient's DNR is going to come back to bite him. Browne has long been the one to defy orders to save lives, but even she knew this was the wrong call.
  • We finally met Park's son, but he's now caught up in the quarantine zone. Talk about an awful reunion.
  • Bob being in the Emergency Room instead of upstairs was so predictable, but it packed an emotional punch when Chris admitted that his deadbeat father just showing up was enough.

That's all I got, The Good Doctor Fanatics!

Lim: This is a negative airflow room designed so no air flows out. Keeps germs from spreading.
Patient: Because whatever I have is going to kill me just like the man on the plane?
Shaun: Your symptoms are not as severe as his. Although yours will probably get worse as the virus progresses.
