The CW may soon be known as that network that has a lot of reboots.
Hey, it's a little better than merely "the superhero network."
The latest series that could be getting the reboot treatment is Gossip Girl.
The 2007-2012 teen drama was a huge hit with younger audiences and helped garner the network a lot of buzz simply for having it on the air.
While there's nothing officially in the works at this moment in time, there was a huge development when CW boss Mark Pedowitz chatted to reporters during the Television Critics Association winter press tour.
“There’s a discussion, but I don’t know if we’re there yet,” he said after being asked about the possibility of bringing the show back.
“I don’t know what it would be. A lot is up to Warner Bros. and [exec producers] Josh [Schwartz] and Steph[anie Savage], ’cause you don’t want to do anything without them.”
Granted, much of the cast has moved on to bigger and better things, so it's hard to imagine this potential reboot flipping the script and becoming a revival.
While never being a massive hit in live ratings, the series was widely credited for recouping the losses post-airdate.
It starred Blake Lively, Leighton Meester, Penn Badgley, Chace Crawford, and Ed Westwick. We do need to remember here that the show has been off the air for less than seven years.
It might be a bit too soon to try and bring the franchise back in any capacity. It didn't exactly end on the best of terms with fans who found the reveal of Gossip Girl to be a polarizing affair.
That being said, The CW currently has reboots of Dynasty, Roswell, and Charmed on the air, so the network is no slouch at making reboots work.
As for us? We're still waiting for the spinoff Tidying Up with Dorota. That show would have been such a hit!
