Chad Michael Murray is the latest addition to the cast of Riverdale, per Variety.
The popular One Tree Hill actor has joined the hit drama as Edgar Evernever aka the mysterious cult leader we've heard a lot about throughout Riverdale Season 3.
“As the enigmatic leader of the cult-like Farm, Edgar arrives in Riverdale to spread his teachings and heal the ravaged soul of this once wholesome town,” reads the character’s official description.
“Edgar is a charming, handsome guru, but is he hiding a more sinister agenda?”
If you watch Riverdale online, you know that Alice Cooper is tight with the elusive leader of the Farm.
In fact, Edgar is part of the season's big mystery, and with his introduction already lined up, it means the slow-burn is probably going to kick into high gear.
Alice has been acting all kinds of sketchy since getting in cahoots with the Farm, but the most significant occurrence to show her allegiance to the cult came in the form of donating Betty's college fund to the cause.
That's certainly a cause for concern ... especially when you consider how Alice has been all about keeping up appearances since Riverdale's debut.
What we don't know is what Edgar's long-term plan is, but we're sure we will get some much-needed insight now that we're about to meet the character.
Murray is probably most well-known for his role on One Tree Hill, the smash hit teen drama that started its life on The WB before moving over to The CW.
He has also appeared on Fox’s Star, CMT’s Sun Records, ABC’s Agent Carter, Crackle’s Chosen, and The WB’s Dawson’s Creek.
The casting news comes just days after it was revealed that Riverdale would be coming back for a fourth season during the 2019-2020 season.
There might be a major caveat:
Series regular, Ashleigh Murray has joined the cast of the Katy Keene spinoff and will be leaving Riverdale behind if the show gets a series order.
