God Friended Me Season 1 Episode 16 Review: Scenes from an Italian Restaurant

at .

Finally.

For a moment, it seemed like Cara and Miles were going to stay in the friends-zone on God Friended Me Season 1 Episode 16, and who could blame them?

Their first date was beyond awkward.

The Spark - God Friended Me Season 1 Episode 16

The chemistry they've always had fizzled out, and the only thing they had in common was the God Account, which served as a buffer for some awkward silences.

While Cara and Miles thought that it meant they missed their moment, I think that was telling of their relationship as a whole.

When they stopped putting the pressure on themselves to make it a perfect date, it was everything it should have been.

They had fun together, they laughed, and they did what they do best -- they followed a friend suggestion.

Everyone has their own things that they like to do with a significant other, and this was Cara and Miles' thing.

Sometimes, you don't have to reinvent the wheel; they found success in doing what they loved to do together.

And I am so glad! I was going to throw a fit if it turned out that the writers teased us for sixteen episodes only to reveal that these two were going to be "just friends."

The first kiss determined everything because as Arthur said if there were no spark, there would never be a spark.

Yeah, I mean who knew God liked Italian?

Cara

Thankfully ... they had a spark!

Seeing them finally go for it while "Amore" played in the background after successfully helping out a Friend Suggestion couldn't have been more perfect.

The God Account sure knows what it's doing when it comes to predictive analytics, right?

Bringing Cara and Miles together was its best match yet.

Hopefully, they have what it takes to make it as a couple.

I'm looking forward to seeing how their new dynamic affects their "business" relationship.

I'm looking forward to seeing how their new dynamic affects their "business" relationship.

The case-of-the-week gave us the family feels we've come to appreciate from God Friended Me.

Sophia fought for what she wanted despite her father's wishes and what her family legacy had in store for her.

I thought that her father was sabotaging her with the gas leaks and a denied liquor license, but I'm glad I was wrong.

The chef may have thought he was making a sound business decision, but family always comes first in a family business.

Her father is a good man who admitted his mistakes, realized his parenting flaws and made up for them by supporting his daughter.

Many fathers' can learn a lesson from Sonny Zolfo.

Miles could relate to Sophia's fear of telling her father about her new venture, but he also knew that her father, much like his, would eventually come around.

Miles even went to his dad for relationship advice! They've come a long way, and it is so heartwarming!

While Sonny was protective of his daughter, Ali and Miles were protective of their father when they realized he was getting pushed out of Harlem Episcopal.

Or so they thought.

Bishop of New York - God Friended Me Season 1 Episode 16

Truthfully, looking back on Andrew Carver's behavior whenever Arthur mentioned him seeing Miles at the restaurant or the board, I thought Ali was on the right track with her theory.

I think we can all breathe a sigh of relief that she wasn't.

My jaw dropped when Andrew said that the board wanted to make Arthur the Bishop of New York.

What an honor!

There is no man more deserving and more dedicated to his career and faith.

I don't want to bring down all the positivity that exuded from this episode, but I have to address how underused and underdeveloped Ali is as a character.

The only time we've ever see her is when she's manning the bar at work, and someone stops by in need of a cocktail.

God Friended Me Season 1 Episode 16 provided her a brief storyline, but it was a storyline that could have gone to anyone.

Miles and Cara used her for her bar!

Look Miles, I know you probably don't want to hear this, but there is a chance you guys missed the last off-ramp to romance and now are about to stay on the Friends Freeway. Forever.

Rakesh

All we know about Ali is that she's newly single, a lesbian, and she just moved into her own apartment.

What about bringing her in on the Friend Suggestions in a more substantial way?

She's the only character without some kind of love interest.

She had a real connection with Sophia, and it was a missed opportunity not to explore that as a possible friendship or even relationship.

At some point, we have to give Ali the love she deserves!

Simon Hayes - God Friended Me Season 1 Episode 16

Rakesh officially crossed Henry Chase off the God Account list after it became evident that all Chase wanted to do was sabotage and destroy the breakthrough Simon Hayes' project.

Attacking your former best friend's private server is a petty move.

With Chase out, Simon Hayes is now Rakesh' prime suspect.

I guess it's a good thing that Hayes is Rakesh's boss and he can get close enough to get some answers.

I'm skeptical that Hayes is behind the account.

Rakesh: So why come back to sabotage you now?
Simon Hayes: Because I'm on the verge of changing the world in a way he never could, and he can't face it. He can't admit the fact that I'm about to fulfill the dream that he walked away from, so he'd rather destroy it. And I need you to help me prevent that from happening. Can I count on you?

If he were, I don't think he'd want Rakesh to have unrestricted access to the system nor would he want him to be so close to the project.

Hayes said his project is it's on the "verge of changing the world," which aligns with the God Account's mission.

After all, the God Account permanently changed Miles, Rakesh and Cara's life along with the many suggestions they've helped.

Chase isn't motivated to do good in the world, but Hayes doesn't strike me as "god-like" either.

If it turns out that Hayes is behind the account, I'm going to be slightly disappointed.

You Have to Help Me - God Friended Me Season 1 Episode 16

I also find it a little odd that the writers would put such an emphasis on Chase to cross him off the list so effortlessly.

I may be the only person who isn't done with Henry Chase yet. I want them to meet Chase and pick his brain!

The one thing we can all agree on is that Miles didn't get the friend account request at random.

But if Miles didn't get chosen at random, neither was Rakesh.

Hayes could have Rakesh right where he wants him.

Rakesh believes that the only way to prove Hayes is behind the God Account is to find a connection between him and Miles, but what could Miles have in common with a tech genius and billionaire?

God Friended Me delivered an episode that equally balanced the main storylines with the case of the week all while continuing to bring a smile to my face.
