Station 19 Season 2 Episode 9 Review: I Fought The Law

Everything is nearly back to normal on Station 19 Season 2 Episode 9.

Jack and Sullivan are back at work, but their replacements aren't ready to turn their jobs back over to them.

Maya dreads her impending transfer to Station 23, and Pruitt has become attached to the Captain job once again.

Miller - Station 19 Season 2 Episode 9

We all knew Maya wasn't actually going anywhere.

I'll admit I wasn't exactly sure how they were going to keep her at Station 19, but it ended up being a very simple solution of Sullivan requesting to have three lieutenants.

Ripley barely even put up a fight before granting the request. Problem solved, much to Jack's dismay.

Pruitt, on the other hand, wasn't stepping down without a fight.

To state the obvious, Sullivan had different methods of leading, and Pruitt wanted to emphasize the important aspects of the job he had previously overlooked.

In the end, it will make Sullivan a better leader, and it inspired him to fight for Maya.

Andy: He's a little emotional about stepping down, so just be prepared.
Sullivan: Maybe you can pull the fire alarm for me then?
Andy: I don't know if you know this, but that's illegal.

Having Pruitt back as Captain was fun while it lasted, but now that Sullivan is back, where does that leave him? Will he simply return to retired life?

I wonder if he will help to prepare Ben for Medic One.

If it's as hard as it sounds, he'll need all the help he can get. Still, it sounds like the perfect solution for his dilemma.

He doesn't want to give up firefighting all together, but he loves his wife and can't stand the thought of hurting her.

Medic One will give him the high stakes adrenaline rush that he craves, allow him to put his medical training to good use, and be safer than his current job.

It's a win-win scenario.

Ryan's Surprise - Station 19 Season 2 Episode 9

The relationship drama was cranked way up.

Andy and Ryan are still fooling around and having fun. Their words say they want to keep it casual, but their expressions say something else.

It's hard to pinpoint exactly what it is each of them wants, and they need to have a real conversation before someone gets hurt.

I think Ryan wants more but is afraid of having his heart broken. Andy is actually a little unstable right now, and it's probably not a great idea for her to pursue a serious relationship.

For one thing, sparks are flying between Andy and Sullivan. They're getting so flirty with each other. It's becoming obvious that there is an attraction between them.

Considering we already have a superior/subordinate relationship going on, it wouldn't make sense for another one to develop, but alas, we can't deny the chemistry.

Andy's emotional state after receiving her medal indicates that she's not in the right place of mind to get involved in a relationship right now, and it's hard not to worry about Ryan's feelings in the long run.

Dad's Back - Station 19 Season 2 Episode 9

He's already dealing with enough emotional distress over his father.

He wasn't sure he'd ever see him again, let alone so soon.

He struggled so mightily with being torn between his duty as a cop and wanting to help his father. It could not have been easy for him to already be faced with a similar dilemma.

His duty as a cop meant he should have immediately arrested Andy's patient, but she begged him to look the other way for a few minutes so she could see her son before his surgery.

Maya: At least I won't be transferring to 23 anymore.
Dean: You won't?
Maya: Instead I'll be going to jail for harboring a fugitive.

He made the decision he could live with, and it was the right one.

Thankfully her son pulled through surgery, but if he hadn't and she didn't get to say goodbye, Ryan would have had to live with that decision.

Vic and Ripley's relationship is getting complicated.

Is it really that odd to Vic that Ripley told his sister about her? They've been together for months, so it was a logical step.

She hadn't told anyone because those closest to her also work with her, and therein lies the problem.

Jack and Travis now both know, and if word gets out, Ripley would be in some serious trouble.

Call - Station 19 Season 2 Episode 9

He assumes she hasn't told anyone she works with, though it does beg the question of who he thinks her best friend is. That's something he should know by now, right?

Jack and Travis can be trusted, but she keeps talking about it at work and isn't exactly discreet. The wrong person could easily overhear.

Travis throwing himself into cycling was the comic relief, but it turned somber when he revealed that his job and his dead husband are all he has in his life.

He's thrown himself into a new hobby to keep him busy and keep his mind off his breakup, but more so about the fact that he was never ready to move on in the first place.

Travis: I realized after the breakup all I really have is this job and Michael.
Vic: Michael?
Travis: Yeah I think I'm still really hung up on my dead husband.

He has more going for him than he realizes. He has his Station 19 family, and it's more than just a job.

He's been through a lot between losing Michael, the skyscraper fire, and his recent breakup. It's perfectly okay to take some time and reflect on what he wants and then go pursue it.

He knows he wants to get married again someday, so that's a start.

Your turn! Are you on board with Andy and Ryan, or do you want to see her with Sullivan?

What's Ryan going to do with that bag of money his dad left him?

Station 19 Season 2 Episode 9 Quotes

Andy: He's a little emotional about stepping down, so just be prepared.
Sullivan: Maybe you can pull the fire alarm for me then?
Andy: I don't know if you know this, but that's illegal.

Dean: She ran away as soon as we dropped her off. Apparently she's a fugitive. She's being sentenced in court this morning and she escaped. She's been lying to us.
Andy: No, no she doesn't know who she is.
Dean: She came to us, remember? She knows exactly who she is. She's been playing us this entire time.
