Supergirl Season 4 Episode 14 Review: Stand and Deliver

at .  Updated at .

Maybe the good guys will win in the end.

Maybe they'll win if there ever is an end to this prolonged season.

I keep saying this, but I'm lacking the moments that made Supergirl exciting when the series first started.

Worried For Everyone's Safety - Tall - Supergirl Season 4 Episode 14

A revolution was brewing on Supergirl Season 4 Episode 14, and while Supergirl tried to keep the peace, it proved a bit difficult with Lockwood's fearmongering and Manchester's Black vendetta against anyone and everyone.

The protests would have been peaceful and effective had it not been for Lockwood who decided to chant "us or them" to provoke a very slim crowd.

Was anyone else surprised by how small of a turnout he had considering he's supposedly a big deal to the Children of Liberty? Where were they?

Despite Lockwood and Manchester's best efforts to turn the crowds against each other, humanity shined through; enemies were helping each other up, spirits were lifted, and minds were swayed.

Over the Shoulder - Supergirl Season 4 Episode 14

Quentin is a great example of that happening -- he was working with Lockwood until he realized the stuff he was spewing had no basis in reality.

The storyline hits home when it comes to the anti-immigrant narrative being presented to us by our current President.

There's a handful of bad seeds, but they are in the minority.

J'onn: It's almost like a weight has been lifted. I almost feel...
Dreamer: Relieved? Sometimes we don't realize the impact people have had on us until they're gone, for good or bad.

Instead of tearing each other down, aliens and humans came together and proved that peace is possible and can go a long way even creating much-needed change.

While I'm not a fan of the politics infiltrating our storylines, I'm always down for a positive message that spreads light and hope.

Brainy's speech to Supergirl was powerful in showing that one man can make a difference.

Brainy made a difference by organizing the march while Supergirl made a difference by showing up and being one with the people.

Stop Marching - Supergirl Season 4 Episode 14

Supergirl is used to policing and keeping her city safe but she's also an alien and a citizen of the Earth.

She's not an exception to the rule just because she's a superhero. It was important for her to unite with the aliens and show that she's one of them.

Together, Supergirl and friends were able to at least delay the repeal of the Alien Amnesty Act.

Lockwood surely has something else up his sleeve, but this seems to me like the beginning of his unraveling.

Repeal the Alien Amnesty Act - Supergirl Season 4 Episode 14

More and more people will see that he's full of it, and when that happens, they will turn on him.

Even the Elite fell flat despite all their hat tricks.

Manchester Black is fueled by anger and he's on a suicide mission. There's no redemption to his character, he simply has to be killed off.

It almost feels like the writers don't have a way to keep J'onn around now that he's found his inner peace so they are using Manchester as bait until he finally snaps which isn't necessary.

J'onn's on the right path, there's no need for him to regress.

In fact, I wish Manchester did die when he was exposed to the baby sun-eater.

Also, why is the name so adorable for a bomb?

Confounding - Supergirl Season 4 Episode 14

Did they really believe that Manchester would just off himself like that?

J'onn and Supergirl cannot be that naive. It should have been an obvious play considering they both know Manchester has Brainy's Legion ring and thus, the ability to hide out in different dimensions.

Lockwood should be grateful that Manchester exists because he's the only one perpetuating Lockwood's beliefs that aliens are dangerous and could wipe out the human species.

I couldn't stop laughing when Lockwood said that his new position as Director of the Bureau of Alien Affairs would prevent humans from living in fear of random alien attacks just as the Elite attacked.

What were you saying again, Lockwood?

Alex was assigned to protect Lockwood which was a low blow by the President.

Quentin - Supergirl Season 4 Episode 14

Obviously, Lockwood was doing everything to enrage the public. You shouldn't have a security detail if you're asking to become a target.

What a waste of taxpayer money.

I'm still surprised Alex hasn't picked up on the obvious fact that Supergirl is her sister.

Every time the sisters have those intense gaze-locking moments, I assume Alex will have that "aha" moment.

I can't put my finger on Colonel Haley which seems to be a sentiment I share with both Alex and Brainy.

She wanted to test out Lena's serum on her soldiers before it was ready putting them all at risk.

I know that tensions are escalating between aliens and humans, but if a scientist tells you they don't want to put your soldiers in danger, you should probably respect that.

And again, what happens when these soldiers wield too much power and cannot be stopped?

Peaceful Protest - Supergirl Season 4 Episode 14

Haley herself said that Lockwood has too much power and not enough brain power to use it. That seems like an obvious foreshadowing of what could happen if Lena's super serum gets in the wrong hands.

Speaking of power getting into the wrong hands, James was shot!

Based on the preview for Supergirl Season 4 Episode 15, which teases the arrival of Lex Luthor, the culprit could be Lena's bro!

Not cool. A back shot is beyond cowardly.

What's even worse?  Jon Cryer as Lex Luthor.

Dreamer: Tell us or eat this.
Supergirl: Hey Dreamer, easy.
Dreamer: I thought that you said being a superhero was about showing strength.
Supergirl: Well, I mean more "hands on hips," not "screaming in face."
Dreamer: Gotcha.

His interpretation of the villain in the promo made me cringe. And that was just the promo.

The blood seemed to be pouring from James' lower back, possibly his spine, so it's likely he's going to have some permanent damage.

Hopefully, he isn't paralyzed because not only would that be a terrible thing to do to any character, it would be especially brutal to one that hasn't been getting enough good storylines to begin with.

Maybe Lena will use her research to save James thus making him the first superhuman?

Otherwise, he can kiss those Guardian days goodbye.

Who Shot James? - Supergirl Season 4 Episode 14

How is it that no one was working late in the office on such a chaotic news day? Journalism never sleeps.

But more importantly, what does Lex Luthor want with James Olsen?

The promo could be deceiving us and the shooter may be some else that's not pleased with Olsen spreading a message of togetherness and humanity.

Maybe Eve isn't pleased with her "favorite boss" snooping around L. Corp's black budgets.

When I lost my Legion ring, I realized how much I depended on it for strength and confidence. I thought it's what made me a hero. But not having it these past few days, made me see it wasn't my ring that gave me strength, it was fighting alongside all of you, helping to make the Earth a better place. In times like this, change won't come from a ring or a cape, it will only come when each of us answers the call to stand up and be heard. El Mayara. Stronger together. Just because we're superheroes, doesn't mean we forget who we are.

Or maybe Haley had someone pull the trigger to motivate Lena. She made it very clear that she knew a lot about Lena's personal life.

My only fear is that the writers will forget all about this Elite/ Manchester Black/Lockwood drama and adopt Lex Luthor's issues instead without wrapping storylines properly.

And seriously, none of us have forgotten about the Red Daughter though it seems the writers surely have.
