Alpha made her big move on The Walking Dead Season 9 Episode 15, and it looks like things are about to get worse for our characters.

Showrunner, Angela Kang, has teased that The Walking Dead Season 9 is saving a huge cliffhanger for the season finale, which is slated to air on Sunday.

"Since this was the year we'd meet the Whisperers – who have adopted an animalistic, anti-civilization, 'survival of the fittest' philosophy – we paired that with seeing more stories about how environmental obstacles and the breakdown of man-made infrastructure have affected our characters," Kang teased in an interview with Deadline.

"Then I wanted to push that past the limits of what we've done on the show before, so in the finale – winter is coming!" she continued, adding a Game of Thrones reference in along the way.

"In season 10, the conflict with the Whisperers will amp up in terrifying and hopefully surprising ways, and we'll also discover something related to the last scene of this season – which I won't spoil – that will once again change everything for our heroes."

If you watch The Walking Dead online, you know "The Calm Before" featured the demise of ten characters at the hands of Alpha, the leader of the Whisperers.

It was quite the surprise ... even for readers of the comics because the characters who met their end during the harrowing sequence differed to the source material.

The good news is that we know the Whisperers arc will continue into The Walking Dead Season 10.

The show has bounced back in the creative department, and the current batch of episodes have been called the show's best in years by some fans.

It's difficult to keep any show fresh after all these years, but the decision to elevate Kang to showrunner is clearly paying off. She's bringing back the shocks, and reiterating that this world these characters are living in does not hold back.
