Halo: Showtime's Live-Action TV Series Finds Its Master Chief

Showtime is pressing on with a live-action Halo TV series.

The high-profile TV adaptation of the hit videogame series has found its lead in Orange is the New Black's Pablo Schreiber, according to THR.

The actor has boarded the cast of the ambitious project as Master Chief aka the most important role on the series.

Halo is our most ambitious series ever, and we expect audiences who have been anticipating it for years to be thoroughly rewarded,” said Showtime president David Nevins in a statement last year when the project was announced.

“In the history of television, there simply has never been enough great science fiction. Kyle Killen’s scripts are thrilling, expansive and provocative, Rupert Wyatt is a wonderful, world-building director, and their vision of Halo will enthrall fans of the game while also drawing the uninitiated into a world of complex characters that populate this unique universe.”

The series, set in 2001, will dramatize “an epic 26th-century conflict between humanity and an alien threat known as the Covenant,” per Showtime.

“Halo will weave deeply drawn personal stories with action, adventure and a richly imagined vision of the future."

Yerin Ha is also boarding the series as a brand new character, Quan Ah.

The character is described as a "shrewd, audacious 16-year-old from the Outer Colonies who meets Master Chief at a fateful time for them both."

This is not the first time a live-action iteration of the series has been in the works. MSN previously revealed that a series would be distributed via Xbox Live.

This series never materialized, and it's probably a good thing. Showtime has the resources to fund a big-budget TV series that is sure to get the blessing from fans of the videogame series.
