New Girl's Jake Johnson Joins ABC's Stumptown as Cobie Smulders' BFF

Stumptown is coming to ABC this fall, and the new drama series will have not one, but two popular comedy actors in its ranks. 

According to Deadline, New Girl veteran Jake Johnson is boarding the drama series, and will star opposite How I Met Your Mother's Cobie Smulders.

Stumptown follows "Dex Parios (Smulders) as a strong, assertive, and sharp-witted army veteran with a complicated love life, gambling debt, and a brother to take care of in Portland, Oregon," according to the official logline.

"Her military intelligence skills make her a great P.I., but her unapologetic style puts her in the firing line of hardcore criminals and not quite in alliance with the police.”

Johnson is taking over the role of Grey McConnell, who was played Mark Webber (SMILF) played in the original pilot.

Grey is Dex's best friend, but the pair have feelings that run deeper than that. Grey is also the person who serves Dex her drinks of choice because he owns and operates one of the most popular bars in town. 

As is always the case with drama series, he has some secrets that he would prefer stay buried.

Tantoo Cardinal, Cole Sibus, Adrian Martinez, Camryn Manheim, and Michael Ealy are also part of the fall drama's cast.

Stumptown is based on the graphic novel series of the same name. The pilot was penned by Jason Richman. 

ABC ordered Stumptown to series earlier this month. It is taking over the Wednesdays at 10 PM slot in the fall.
