The 100 Season 6 Episode 5 Preview: Stay Out of The Forest

at .  Updated at .

We left off The 100 Season 6 Episode 4 with one of the show's biggest cliffhangers when Russell and Simone forced Josephine's soul into Clarke. That left the series off with a question about Clarke's faith, especially since none of her friends know what is going on yet and the clock is ticking.

Because with this Flame-like imprint of the Primes comes the shutdown of the original host in it. Clarke's brain may work for Josephine's benefit, but the rest of her is gone.

That will make the journey to bring her back that much more anxiety-inducing, and adds a layer to when we will possibly see Clarke again.

Clarke Gets Tested On - The 100 Season 6 Episode 5

Meanwhile, Octavia and Diyoza team up to track down Gabriel because they want to gain access to Sanctum. Jordan and Raven also get their own arcs in the background of the Naming Day ceremony.

All of it is slowly building up to all the characters becoming involved with the Clarke Griffin Rescue Mission this season. Every individual character is carving out a different piece, and when put together it will lead to an answer of how to even save the lead.

Now The 100 Season 6 Episode 5 is using the title "The Gospel of Josephine" for very obvious reasons, mainly the way that Josephine will get her time to shine now. There will be flashbacks, and there will be scenes between Josephine and her parents to fill in the blanks.

It not only gives Eliza Taylor the chance to flex her acting skills a bit more on the show, but it also lends itself to that uneasy feeling that comes with being a viewer who knows more than the characters.

Josephine Wakes Up - The 100 Season 6 Episode 5

The change not clicking for everyone right away will be as intense as it is promising. Because at the center of is the eventual fight for Clarke's life, with all the people in her life experiencing the same loss we feel as they rush to change it all back.

The synopsis for the episode is, "Jordan investigates Sanctum. Meanwhile, Octavia and Diyoza discover the threats of the new planet firsthand. Lastly, Bellamy and Clarke butt heads."

The trailer for this episode helps us gain some insight into what might be going down now that the big twist arrived.

This preview might contain some light teases about the fifth episode with a specific focus on characters and scenes that have been discussed before or have been included in promotional videos or photos.

Proceed with caution if you don't want speculation or a variety of theories, but really, who doesn't like that?

The 100 Season 6 Episode 4 Review: The Face Behind The Glass

Josephine's New Blake Groove

Jordan doesn't sound like he is the only one digging into the truth of Sanctum, with Bellamy and Murphy also making a plan in this teaser clip

Most of the glimpses that we get into an episode are from the beginning few minutes, so it's likely how their story will get introduced. Bellamy decides they need to check out more of the area, a choice that shockingly no one else considered.

Fans were right to question why none of the characters wonder about anything that Sanctum does; they just go with it.

And Bellamy being the only one to bring up exploring the moon because it's like no one else had any plans to leave Sanctum makes sense because the characters need not ask questions yet to make the plot work, but the longer they aren't suspicious of anything the stranger they seem.

For a group who keeps getting screwed over by new populations that cross their path, how is no one else questioning the cult style group?

Bellamy and Murphy and Sanctum Secrets - The 100 Season 6 Episode 5

Moving on from that, Bellamy and Murphy will have to turn the wrong way somehow or catch a glimpse of Russell (and Josephine?) leaving that creepy room.

They discover the nightmare we have all been living, and it doesn' take a genius to connect enough dots.

Bellamy won't figure it out, all he knows is that bodies are being saved by these people.

But that will be enough for his old choking kink to come back, with him choking first and asking later. It is highly likely that Bellamy goes in and harms Russell out of worry while Murphy and Clarke watch on in the original The Season 6 trailer.

Russell will make up some excuse, maybe that those are the bodies of other Primes, leaning into the regal aspect of their names. He will bypass the tech portion of it though, and Bellamy will be skeptical enough with Murphy to no longer buy what he gets told.

Which is where Josephine comes in since her job is now controlling the others while she pretends to be Clarke.

The synopsis may have said Bellamy and Clarke butt heads, but it is, in fact, "Clarke" who will refuse to let Bellamy think they can't trust the people in Sanctum.

Bellamy Hugging Clarke - The 100 Season 6 Episode 4

It is a very smart move making the synopsis for the episode what is considered true to Bellamy, and not what the audience knows about Clarke now.

Regardless, Bellamy and "Clarke" will start to disagree. That doesn't mean Bellamy will link it right away because it would make sense for Clarke to be more trusting since she wants a fresh start.

But we also have to remember that the memories Clarke had are gone, Josephine can't access them. She will only have as much to go by as Russell knows, which is everything Delilah learned from Jordan.

That is where the cracks might begin because Jordan doesn't know everything and Clarke's friends have long memories.

Jordan and Delilah Look On - The 100 Season 6 Episode 4

And honestly, Russell and Simone were biased, as was Jordan when he got his information from his parents. It becomes interpretation after interpretation after interpretation of who others think Clarke is.

She isn't defined by her actions though, which could serve as a way for others to realize the change.

Some characters could not know Clarke enough to see she is different, while others might not know who she is at her core and will buy Josephine's interpretation at face value even if it is off from what they felt about her before.

Just one super positive moment with Murphy where she doesn't blame herself for anything or an off scene with Bellamy where she forgets how important he is to her could confirm their doubts faster, with it all coming back to the connections that Clarke shared with those around her.

So in a way, Bellamy and the others will need to start struggling to connect with "Clarke" again soon so they can connect the information faster.

Clarke Hugging Bellamy - The 100 Season 6 Episode 4

Bellamy might be the first one, being convinced by "Clarke" to trust these people will only work for so long. From there, Bellamy could get a well-deserved pioneer arc where he can mimic Clarke's time in Mount Weather.

She was not trusting in a room full of people that were, and it might be Bellamy's turn to get stuck in a place where most of his friends are happy and he isn't so sure anymore.

There were teases about Bellamy returning to his Season 1 self, and nothing screams that like a version of him that acts based on his gut feeling. He logically will know something is wrong and he physically will react to it by not giving into Sanctum fully.

The 100 Season 6 Episode 3 Review: The Children of Gabriel

Octavia and Diyoza's Green Light Journey

Octavia and Diyoza also got a teaser clip featuring Xavier, which is mostly them learning that they can't win in unknown territory.

If we believe that it is all from the beginning of the episode, then their reunion with Xavier won't happen for us to see.

Instead, it could be in the middle of the action, Octavia, and Diyoza trying to stop him so they could talk and him using his knowledge of the forest to trip them up.

Xavier Wins - The 100 Season 6 Episode 5

Obviously, though they will save themselves from that sinking hole of leaves and will catch up to him, or maybe he doubles back to help them since he is tough to read still.

One second he is with the Children of Gabriel and is knocking out Octavia to have as a prisoner, then the next he gives her a weapon so she could escape.

In a way he needs just to get paired off with Octavia already because if that is why he is doing that, speeding up the process will at least help characterize him more.

From there, it must be Xavier who either fills them in a bit on Gabriel and the Sanctum disconnect or leads them to Gabriel so they could hear it from the source.

It didn't sound like Gabriel was easy to access though, with no one having contact with him long enough that they have to figure out their next steps alone.

It all adds up to a day trip to the green Anomaly, supposedly where Gabriel is hanging out and maybe even waiting for news of Josephine that he won't have for a while.

There isn't much else we can detect about the storyline for now, except that it gives us more background information about the other side of what Russell and Simone are sharing with us.

They are biased, and so are the Children of Gabriel, but together the audience gets all the information and not pieces of it picked by the person telling the story.

Octavia and Diyoza possibly finding Gabriel is also fitting because of the flashbacks, ones that have to touch on how Gabriel reacted in the first place.

He is in a different headspace now, and chronicling where an idea originated from helps put into perspective how it affected the people involved all these years later.

The 100: How the Blake Siblings Prove that Forgiveness Should Be Hard

You Bet You Thought You Saw The Last of The Flashbacks

The backstory is everything and what better time to bring that back around?

As always, it feels necessary to mention that I made some connections in response to The 100 Season 6 Episode 2. Much of it has to be coming true based on the quick trailer, which shows the lovely Skylar Radzion take on the role of the original Josephine in another body.

Just a quick reminder, the theories circulating there are mainly about the mythology of it all. The original Russell has to tag Gabriel in after his eclipse inspired killing spree to use the embryos to bring back his family.

We can presume that the original settlers in Sanctum were Nightbloods that had the flame in them as a way to pass back information to Becca. They were monitored to figure out the way the moon affected those living there.

Russell Chooses Josephine - The 100 Season 6 Episode 4

All of those people would then be Primes, and as such, they keep been reborn again. There are plenty of blanks that still need to be filled though, maybe who the original host human was before she became Josephine.

The script for the final scene of The 100 Season 6 Episode 4 highlights that their creepy skeleton layer has an unsettling amount of children skeletons there.

Chances are they didn't know that a brain has to mature to a certain age, so they could have tried to implant the flame in the bodies of the children to hurry up the cloning process. But obviously, that failed over and over again, creating a clue into how the procedure goes into remaking them in the future.

But with the protocol established, what happens when people in Sanctum go off script? It looks like we may find that out soon.

Russell and Simone - The 100 Season 6 Episode 4

Kaylee gets the first heads up that Josephine is back, but their reunion isn't all that positive and loving. This teaser clip shows that Josephine sells her out before she even gets out of Clarke's party dress.

It is like she gets woken up and is accessing Kaylee before anything else. It would make sense for Russell and Simone to catch her up, since Simone's necklace probably had bad reception for Josephine to hear anything in the flame.

It also establishes the kind of person Josephine is, with her priorities getting limited to her parents and barely any trust to go with that.

We don't know yet what kind of friendship Josephine had with Kaylee before but how good could it have been if she doesn't believe her the second she gets brought back?

Josephine Meets Kaylee Again - The 100 Season 6 Episode 5

Granted, Kaylee must have been trying to escape Sanctum and was lying that they couldn't get back in time. But that might speak to Russell's regime more than it speaks to Kaylee as a person.

As complicit as she may be in the Naming Day and the same people living over and over again, Kaylee is still the odd one out now.

First Russell drew attention to her, and now Josephine is setting her sight on Kaylee's plans further down the line.

The trailer also teased Josephine harming Kaylee, so maybe her answers aren't the ones that she wants to hear. There is something about establishing the kind of person Josephine is by making her face off with her supposed best friend.

It also presents the question of how long the Primes could continue to survive? Some are at odds with one another, or with the system, or with the newcomers.

And with Josephine reappearing, especially under these circumstances, will it help or harm the future of Sanctum?

The 100 Season 6 Episode 1 Review: Sanctum

Stray Thoughts

  • We can all agree that the anxiety factor will get kicked up now that Clarke is "gone", and no one else knows yet. The only thing that will help get through it is the audience being clued in on Clarke's whereabouts.

It would make an impactful cliffhanger though, an entire episode with us not knowing if Clarke is even alive somehow, only for us to get a glimpse of her in that Mount Weather scenario. A sunken place type reveal like no other.
  • It would be the time to tag in Madi and Gaia again, even if the flame in her head won't be a major player in saving Clarke.

It definitely will be because The 100 would never stray that far from it's favorite plot device, and it would be great to have Madi see that something was off with Clarke first.
  • If we are exploring the Anomaly, then I expect some Annihilation vibes headed our way; the freakier, the better.
Russell, Simone, and Josephine - The 100 Season 6 Episode 5
  • If Murphy has returned from wherever he was hanging out, then so should Emori. She is a great addition to the group, and it would be a complete shame only to see her when it benefits Murphy somehow.

She is an individual, and she shines, so why not give her more to do?

The possibilities are endless, and they grow more each week as the plotlines open up to include more choices.
  • So is Gabriel old or young or dead? Place your bets because we are about to find out and we might not be ready for that.
  • Should we start locking in our answers about who will realize that Clarke 9sn't herself first? My money is on a Madi and Bellamy combo with a twist of Murphy being more aware than we gave him credit for.

And who do we think will be the most unaware that something could be wrong?
  • Also, it seems like the perfect time for that consent discussion that has to happen before the season continues. Clarke might not be in control of her body, but that doesn't make it Josephine's.

Wishing for anything romantic or sexual to happen to Clarke's body while she isn't in it to give consent or approve it in any way isn't cute.

There have been enough boundaries crossed by people looking to harm Clarke for their personal gain; let's not add to it by hoping moments are shared when Clarke isn't the one experiencing them.

Whether it be a Clarke romance or wanting to see Josephine have fun, neither promotes safe boundaries.

Jordan Offers Insight - The 100 Season 6 Episode 4
  • We can't forget that the Jordan Green Investigation Files will begin as well, when he uses Priya as a way to question Sanctum since "Delilah" will be blowing him off now.

It builds up a larger story of everyone having their connection to a clue that reveals what happened to Clarke.

It could also put Jordan with Raven, both of them now sharing connections to Primes(who are related to one another), and they could work together to figure out what is going on with them.

This season is all about pairs of all kinds, and Raven is distant enough not to want to be with everyone, but there is no way she wouldn't be there for Monty and Harper's son.

The 100 Season 6 Episode 5 Quotes

Consent is key. Blah de blah. Tell me something. Did this Ferrari I'm wearing consent to giving up her body?

Josephine

Bellamy: What the hell are you doing?
Jordan: What you would have done, the you before Praimfaya anyway. Heart over head. That was my favorite Bellamy.
