Absentia Season 2 Episode 7 Review: Boom

at .  Updated at .

I refuse to believe what I saw at the end of Absentia Season 2 Episode 7.

Even though it looked as though Detective Tommy Gibbs had committed suicide, I'm still not accepting it.

But unfortunately, Emily probably will.

Under Attack - Absentia

I know that Tommy was at a very low place in his life.

He had to break up with the woman he loved after she inexplicably beat the hell out of him and then he was suspended from the Boston Police Department.

Tommy may have believed that the only way he was of any use to Emily was to help her with this investigation, and without his badge and gun he was of no use at all.

So, on paper, Tommy killing himself makes sense.

But that doesn't mean I'm convinced.

The people at Catalyst Diagnostic knew what Tommy had found because they'd wiped his phone, so I think it's possible that they killed him to end his investigation permanently and made it look like a suicide.

Or at least that's the theory I'm going to believe until I find out otherwise because losing Tommy Gibbs hurts enough without having to think that Emily broke him to the point that he didn't want to live.

Regrettably, Emily will probably think just that.

Emily and Cal's Moldova mission ended with lots of blood and more than one death.

For Cal, it was the loss of an old friend who had the best Absentia quote of the episode...

Holt - Absentia Season 2 Episode 7

Holt: If there’s one thing I’ve learned out here, patriotism is for suckers.
Cal: Bullshit. You’ve got a bald eagle tattoo on your back.
Holt: Had. Now I got a parrot drinking a margarita.

Holt knew Cal, flaws and all, and it sounds like Cal has a lot to hide. That he might also have developed feelings for Emily isn't exactly a shock either.

One of the best things to happen to Emily on this mission was meeting Oksana. The two women, both trained to kill, had an instant respect for one another.

Oksana: Why are you here?
Emily: To find a killer.
Oksana: There are so many of them here.
Emily: This one murdered a lot of people.
Oksana: Justice. Good reason.
Emily: And my mother.
Oksana: Even better reason.

But when they finally tracked Rex Wolfe down, all hell broke loose when he stabbed Holt and then ran into a minefield.

There was no doubt that Wolfe was going to take his foot off of that mine at some point. A man in his position doesn't allow himself to be taken alive.

The only question was how much he would tell Emily before he did.

Emily: Why did you kill all of those people?
Rex: Mistakes were made. They had to be cleaned up.
Emily: Am I a part of the cleanup?
Rex: I wasn’t ordered to kill you.
Emily: And who ordered you? Who do you work for? Night Watch?
Rex: You came all the way out here. Your own backyard’s a mess.
Emily: What does that mean? What the hell does that mean?
Rex: You really should lie down now.
Emily: The woman on the subway was my mother.
Rex: I’m sorry.

He gave Emily a few clues but no real answers. It was just enough to continue to haunt her, and that was before she found out Tommy was dead.

Back home, Alice made a move I didn't think she would.

Alice Thinks It's Over - Absentia Season 2 Episode 7

Finding out she couldn't have a baby and then having Nick belittle her, granted she didn't tell him about her test results, must have pushed her over the edge.

The therapist told her to find her passion so she looked into welding sculptures and she had sex with her brother-in-law.

The former could be good for her. The latter will no doubt blow up in her face.

Where Alice was in complete control here, Jack looked utterly confused. He obviously wanted Alice and he wasn't about to say no, but he looks as though he has no clue what's happened and if they'll be doing this again.

Especially since Alice left him to go back home to play along as the good wife.

Now that Nick found that motel stationery in his wife's coat pocket, does he suspect she's having an affair?

He has to feel the seething anger coming off of Alice toward him in waves, doesn't he. I mean, he's an FBI agent for goodness sake. He's supposed to be attuned to these type of things, or is that only at work?

But Nick is stuck inside his own head as he struggles with the lie that the FBI has him telling and I couldn't quite tell what Erica Lyle thought of his story.

Erica: If you don’t let that wall down just a little bit then you’re going to come across as a cardboard stiff to every living room in America. Be vulnerable.
Nick: That’s extremely easy for you to say, you weren’t there.
Erica: Exactly. Take me there. Take America there.

Also, I fear whether Alice will continue to keep up the facade of a loving wife with the cameras rolling or if she'll snap and let all of America know what a mess their lives really are.

Nick's Interview - Absentia Season 2 Episode 7

But right now, the person I'm worried about the most is Emily.

She still doesn't have any answers about why her mother was killed, only that her death was part of the mysterious clean up.

And Emily will be blaming herself for Tommy's death, whether it is suicide or otherwise.

She pushed Valerie away and she's dead. She pushed Tommy away and he's dead.

I'd like to hope that Emily will stop pushing people away, but that's probably wishful thinking on my part.

But we'll find out as we move on to Absentia Season 2 Episode 8 and you can watch Absentia online here at TV Fanatic.
