You reap what you sow, and the Codys are reaping a whole lot of peril.
The likelihood of the Codys surviving was knocked down a few notches on Animal Kingdom Season 4 Episode 5.
Between Frankie's deceit, Angela's manipulations, Adrian's betrayal, and Smurf's sickness, things aren't looking good for the Oceanside, California crime family.
Pope needs to get his head straight.
He was definitely shocked to learn that Smurf had cancer, but his statement to her later about how he doesn't care if she dies is Pope trying to deal with the inevitability of his mother's death.
He doesn't know how to deal with the news.
The fact that Smurf continues to manipulate him isn't shocking, but she may have realized she went too far.
What he said to her hurt her. She may think the only way the boys will love her is if she continues the way she has been all their lives, but she might need to change her strategy.
Pope hooking up with Angela was what he needed at the moment, even if it was with the wrong girl.
He's afraid, and he might be looking to Angela as a mommy replacement when Smurf does finally die.
Angela is certainly laying it on thick. She might think she has Pope wrapped around her little finger, but she might be surprised.
Pope doesn't want to be alone, and she's the only one around who will prevent that from happening.
It's true that she's been manipulating him since she arrived, but he wouldn't have moved so fast with her if he didn't know what was going on with Smurf.
I'm not sure how Smurf feels about Pope and Angela having sex, but she's not going to tolerate Angela much longer.
Angela is trouble and not only because she's Smurf's competition.
Angela knows secrets about Smurf and Julia, and she doesn't want Angela blabbing to anyone.
Smurf isn't going to be able to keep it together much longer.
At least it seems that way. It makes sense that she'd start doing weird things because of the cancer, and those two instances were very weird.
And it's only going to get worse.
She needs to tell the other boys what's going on with her.
They'll be shocked, but they'll rally around her.
Right now, though, she has something to occupy her time rather than thinking about her illness.
Frankie betrayed Craig in the worst way possible by going to Smurf and telling her about the heist job.
There was no reason for it other than Frankie wants what she wants.
It's sad that she's only been using Craig for her own purposes, but at least Renn is back in the picture.
Craig was so proud of himself for coming up with the plan to get the sculpture, but he was right to be angry about not getting paid in full for the job.
That's not how you do business, and Craig has to answer to his family.
Now that Smurf's involved with Frankie's job prospects, the boys will be trapped -- again!
Craig is going to have to deal with Frankie in some way because he can't let her get away with what she did.
It's disheartening that Frankie burned Craig. I was hoping for more from her.
But as I said earlier, Renn is back in the picture, and if anyone has Craig's back, it's Renn.
She's not going to tolerate anyone messing with her man even if they're not together right now.
Frankie will meet her match when she and Renn finally meet, and it's going to be epic.
Craig isn't the only one with relationship problems, either.
Deran found out about Adrian's drug dealing adventures, but that whole situation is about to go nuclear.
Detective Pierce is involved now (no surprise), and Deran's going to go down.
It's heartwrenching to think that's even possible, but Adrian doesn't have enough balls to throw the guy off course.
He's going to vomit up everything he knows and speculate about the things he doesn't.
Adrian knows he's screwed any way he turns, so the best alternative for him, like with all rats, is to side with the cops and hide under their cloak.
Or maybe he'll do us all a favor and kill himself. Maybe he'll take Angela with him in the process.
No matter what happens, it's going to be Deran who will suffer the most.
He trusts Adrian, and he loves him more than anything in the world.
This betrayal is going to crush him.
One more note on Smurf.
I wonder if maybe she's going to disappear before the end finally comes.
It seems like something she would do so her boys don't have to deal with her death because even if she doesn't tell them what's going on, they're going to see her wither away right before their eyes.
What do you think?
Will Smurf leave to die alone?
Is Pope using Angela as much as she's using him?
Will Adrian cooperate with the cops even more than he is already?
Who will Craig choose?
I know I didn't talk about him in the review, but is anyone else not finding J's story intriguing?
