Fear the Walking Dead Season 5 Episode 4 Review: Skidmark

And he's away again.

Fear the Walking Dead Season 5 Episode 4 did the unthinkable: It brought Daniel back into the fold, and then he left again.

If you watch Fear the Walking Dead online, you're probably starting to scratch your head at the frequency in which the character pops up only to hit the road again.

On the Road Again - Fear the Walking Dead Season 5 Episode 4

It would be great if the creative forces behind the show could find a way to keep the character around that didn't feel like he being used as a plot device to advance the narrative.

Daniel and Charlie's scenes together were oddly satisfying.

Charlie has bordered on tedious throughout her short tenure on the show, and despite her not following orders, there was a strong friendship brewing between her and Daniel.

As such, I would have preferred if Charlie hit the road with him. The youngster hasn't been given much purpose in the narrative, and this would have been a prime opportunity to show another side to her.

Charlie Gets Caught - Fear the Walking Dead Season 5 Episode 4

My eyes rolled the moment she went into the car to hide. It was predictable to see Daniel driving off with her in the back at the beginning of the episode, but what followed was pretty impressive.

Daniel has a multitude of reasons for not wanting to help Strand, and Strand trying to steal the plane from under his former friend's nose was a predictable twist.

But Daniel was not ready to forgive Strand for what happened at the Dam, an even before that. To Daniel, Strand was a selfish man who only did things that benefit himself, and he's not off base about that.

Charlie's New Friend - Fear the Walking Dead Season 5 Episode 4

Fear the Walking Dead Season 5's biggest theme is redemption, so it was about time Daniel and Strand put their beef aside.

Strand using the plane to dispose of the horde of zombies to save Daniel's life was the moment that the latter realized Strand really had changed.

By using the plane in that manner, it wasn't able to take off without being fixed up. I'm still unsure about Daniel getting up and leaving the warehouse, and even leaving his trusty companion, Skidmark behind.

Make Way for Daniel - Fear the Walking Dead Season 5 Episode 2

There was something fascinating about Daniel and his four-legged friend that made their scenes intriguing. Whatever Daniel is really doing, he needs to find a way to get over the past and live in the present.

Charlie will take Skidmark under her wing to make sure he is still living when Daniel inevitably pops back up.

Charlie: I'm in his car, he's about to leave.
Strand: Hey, get out of there. We're coming in.
Wendell: You know how long I've been waiting to drop this hammer?
Sarah: And turn her into Swiss Cheese.

The kids messing with Alicia, Morgan, and company was actually one of the highlights of "Skidmark."

It's been difficult to get a grasp on whether these kids have been working with another group of people throughout the first handful of episodes, but now we know there's a whole team of them, it changes the game.

Dylan and Luciana - Fear the Walking Dead Season 5 Episode 4

Knowing they were the ones hanging the walker guts like decorations, there was no telling the lengths they would go to in order to keep the big secret.

The show successfully made us think the kids were in trouble, but the expectation was that they were not hiding anything else. Now that there's a whole network of them, it remains to be seen what they really are doing.

The people who took Althea have left the land, and it makes you wonder whether Althea was the one they really wanted. There was so much riding on this plot because it had a big significance on The Walking Dead.

That's why it needs to be followed up. Thankfully, it will be on Fear the Walking Season 5 Episode 5, and it looks like Althea will be taken somewhere else.

Alicia Wants Answers - Fear the Walking Dead Season 5 Episode 3

It made sense to keep the search for Sherry away from the screen. There was too much emphasis on it during Fear the Walking Dead Season 5 Episode 3

But the big caveat here is that Dwight, John, and June were not part of the episode.

What did you think of the latest twists and turns?

Do you believe everything the kids are saying?
