Dancing with the Stars: Christie Brinkley Drops Out After Injury - Who's Replacing Her?

Christie Brinkley will not be competing for the Mirrorball trophy after all.

The supermodel has been forced to pull out of Dancing With the Stars Season 28 -- on the day the season is slated to get underway.

Brinkley exited the series after suffering injuries to her arm and wrist while rehearsing for the highly anticipated season premiere.

Brinkley's daughter Sailor has been added to the cast in a last-minute switcheroo because she will no longer be able to participate.

“While rehearsing for the premiere of Dancing with the Stars, Christie Brinkley suffered injuries which required surgery to her wrist and arm. She is unable to continue her planned participation on the show,” ABC and BBC Studios confirmed in a statement.

“Keeping it all in the family, her daughter Sailor Brinkley-Cook, a Sports Illustrated model, has chosen to quickly step in with hours to learn the entire routine and will compete in her mother’s place for the remainder of the season."

"We wish Christie a full and speedy recovery and look forward to seeing her in the audience, whenever possible, proudly supporting Sailor.”

This will likely put Sailor at an immediate disadvantage because of how late in the game she stepped in.

No details have been revealed who Sailor will be dancing with, which is uncommon because the show usually releases the pairings ahead of the premiere.

But this is no ordinary DWTS premiere. The series has been on hiatus since last fall, skipping a midseason run earlier this year.

The show has faced criticism for the elimination process, so it is widely expected that there will be some significant changes to the process.

On top of that, the ratings sagged last fall, so ABC will be looking for the series to stabilize if it has any hope of continuing beyond the current season.

Sailor joins a cast that already includes Sean Spicer, Lamar Odom, Mary Wilson, Ray Lewis, Kate Flannery, Kel Mitchell, James Van Der Beek, Lauren Alaina, Karamo Brown, Ally Brooke, and Hannah Brown.
