Grey's Anatomy is bringing a Season 15 guest star back for a lengthier arc on Grey's Anatomy Season 16.
She arrived after a freak accident, and it quickly emerged that she had a past with Dr. Richard Webber.
If you watch Grey's Anatomy online, you know that Gemma and Richard had the same Alcoholics Anonymous sponsor.
As you will recall, Ollie passed away, and Richard had a difficult time in the aftermath. Gemma was in the same boat and relapsed after 17 years of sobriety.
It's unclear what brings Gemma back into Richard's life, but it's possible they will lean on each other for support.
Richard lost his job at the close of Grey's Anatomy Season 15, so there's no telling what he will be getting up to when Grey's Anatomy Season 16 kicks off.
Richard knew about Meredith committing insurance fraud, and it didn't sit well with Bailey and Catherine who ousted him, Meredith and Alex from Grey Sloan Memorial.
An exact episode count for Guy has not been revealed, but Deadline notes that her return is in a "key recurring role."
Created and executive produced by Shonda Rhimes, Grey’s Anatomy stars Ellen Pompeo as Meredith Grey, Justin Chambers as Alex Karev, Chandra Wilson as Miranda Bailey, James Pickens Jr as Richard Webber, Kevin McKidd as Owen Hunt, Jesse Williams as Jackson Avery, Caterina Scorsone as Amelia Shepherd, Camilla Luddington as Jo Wilson, Kelly McCreary as Maggie Pierce, Kim Raver as Teddy Altman, and Giacomo Gianniotti as Andrew DeLuca.
Guy is well-known for her small-screen roles, appearing in BET's The Quad and on The CW's The Vampire Diaries.
ABC revealed earlier this week that Charmed's Alyssa Milano and Holly Marie Combs would be appearing in an October episode as sisters who are forced to make a decision about the fate of their other sister who is in a coma.
Grey's Anatomy returns for its highly anticipated 16th season Thursday, September 26 at 8/7c.
The season premiere's official logline reads:
"Nothing Left to Cling To" - Meredith, Richard and Alex must deal with the consequences after Bailey fires them from Grey Sloan for insurance fraud.
After disappearing in the fog, Jackson helps a man in a dangerous situation, as his relationship with Maggie comes to a new crossroad.
Meanwhile, Tom gets new responsibilities at the hospital that throw the doctors for a loop on the season premiere of "Grey's Anatomy," THURSDAY, SEPT. 26 (8:00-9:01 p.m. EDT), on ABC. Episodes can also be viewed the next day on ABC.com, the ABC app and Hulu.
