Superstore Season 5 Episode 3 Review: Forced Hire

at .

Dina's list of enemies might just grow longer after this episode.

On Superstore Season 5 Episode 3 we learn that Dina's list includes newcomer Colleen, Garrett, her neighbor's baby, and many others. The length is not surprising. However, the length she will go to get revenge is.

Dina is smart about it, pitting two of her enemies against one another and, therefore, killing two birds with one stone. But, how will she react when she finds out someone not on her list helped the two enemies?

Rival - Superstore Season 5 Episode 3

Garrett is guilt-tripped on this episode by Dina into hazing Colleen, who just transferred from the recently closed Bellridge store.

He feels terrible about accidentally killing Dina's birds and then lying about it, as he should, so he does what Dina says. Well, all he does is put a bunch of fish in her locker.

Dina: I need you to make Colleen quit because I hate her.
Garrett: Okay so you hate Colleen, you hate me, how many enemies do you have?
Dina: Thirty-seven. Thirty-six and then my bitch neighbor had a baby.

After the fish incident, he realizes Colleen is into him and foregoes helping Dina get her revenge on her arch-nemesis. Which, is understandable because framing someone for possession of meth is pretty extreme.

Garrett and Colleen start to click, and he asks her on a date, which, of course, gets back to Dina. She is infuriated until Amy steps in to lie for Garrett.

Can we stop lying to Dina, please? It is getting pretty old.

Colleen and Garrett - Superstore Season 5 Episode 3

Honestly, it is surprising Dina fell for the made-up excuse. I mean, Garrett making Colleen fall in love with him so that he could break her heart? It is a bit cliche, and Dina is smarter than that.

It does make for great comedy though.

Plus, it adds conflict to Amy and Dina's relationship.

Will Dina be mad at Amy for lying to her? Of course. Will she add Amy to her long list of enemies? We will have to wait and see.

Mateo and Sandra - Superstore Season 5 Episode 3

Jonah continues to show his support for Cloud 9's union by trying to convince the warehouse workers to join in the fight.

Let's be real for one second, Jonah is probably the character that is most with the times on this show. He is constantly fighting for other's rights and he should be appreciated by his colleagues more.

Jonah: What I'm saying is I get that this is a little scary. But, what corporate is going to do if we don't do this is even scarier. Okay, so you know, you, you, you, you're all at risk of being replaced by machines.
Paul: So I'm good?
Jonah: Uh, no you're at risk too.
Paul: You didn't point at me.
Jonah: Okay, the pointing was arbitrary. Alright look, a union is our best shot at protecting our jobs. Okay, so who's with me?

He ends up needing to chug a huge bottle of ranch dressing to prove his worth to the warehouse workers. Marcus even claims that he's not a "guy's guy."

While that might have been funny to watch, it was also sad in the grand scheme of things. First a whole sheet cake and now ranch, what is next?

Gadgets - Superstore Season 5 Episode 3

Jonah is the force that the Cloud 9 union needs to get action done. It will be interesting to see how the workers do just that, and how it will tie into Mateo hopefully becoming a legal citizen.

For this episode, though, Jonah was able to get more workers to join the union. I am sure we will see him and the rest of the Cloud 9 team make good on their promise and expand to other stores in the next few episodes.

Mateo: Oh Sandra, I can't believe they got you in on this.
Sandra: Huh?
Mateo: Oh this is so stupid. I mean, it's so bland. Like, you got the same color next to each other, nothing's accessorized. Uh, it looks like a baby did this. You guys, Sandra? This is too much.
Sandra: I did my best.
Mateo: Uh it's okay. I've got this.

On the other politic related story of the episode, Mateo, unable to work and get paid for it, helps out around the store. And by help I mean do everyone's jobs for them.

While Mateo waits for his hearing with ICE, Cheyenne and Glenn try to make him feel useful by screwing up their work and having Mateo swoop in to save the day.

Mateo, however, thinks the whole store is in on it and exhausts his perfectionist little self.

Temporary Relief - Superstore Season 5 Episode 3

While annoying to his former co-workers, Mateo fixing a few mannequins Sandra dressed because they did not live up to his excellent taste in fashion was hilarious.

Dina: You know Colleen from the Bellridge store? The one who sucks and is like if Satan and a turd had a baby? She just walked in.
Amy: Mmhm, yeah um but your little rivalry thing is just kind of fun and friendly competition, right?
Dina: No Amy, I hate her with the fire of a thousand suns. Frankly, I'd like her dead.

At the end of the episode, Mateo was grateful for what Cheyenne and Glenn had supposedly done but was tired of having to "help" everyone. And, rightfully so. He has much bigger things to worry about than the Cloud 9 store.

It was nice to see him take a break and forget about his deportation, though. And, while the writers still reminded us of Mateo's ICE problem, Superstore Season 5 Episode 3 was a lighter episode in tone.

With all the heavy-handed, but important, stories this season, a regular, goofy episode was needed and welcomed with open arms.

Colleen - Superstore

However, we are still missing the Jonah and Amy couple scenes!

Thankfully, they had more than thirty seconds in a scene together on this episode. But, a random person who is just flipping through the channels probably would not know that they were a couple.

The Jonah and Amy "will they or won't they" storyline was a major focus for the first few seasons. Now that they are a couple -- it is almost as if all of that chemistry and tension is gone -- which is ironic because it should be just the opposite.

So, what did you think of Superstore Season 5 Episode 3?

Is Dina going to add Amy to her list of enemies?

Are they going to show the other Cloud 9 stores join the union?

And, will Jonah and Amy ever kiss again?
