S.W.A.T. is saying goodbye to an original series regular.
Stephanie Sigman took to social media to confirm her exit from the CBS drama series, just hours after the debut of its third season.
"The word is out. Jessica Cortez is on to new adventures," Sigman shared on Instagram, adding:
"And so am I. Happy with the work done for the past 2 seasons (45 episodes).
She continued: "Thankful & proud of the strength this character gifted me throughout the intense learning experience it was playing Captain Cortez."
"Wishing the show & SWAT FAMILY the best moving forward @swatcbs @sptv."
"Lastly and most importantly, my eternal thanks to the fans who cared for Cortez and enjoy my work, all my love to you out there, couldn't do it without you."
S.W.A.T. showrunner Shawn Ryan went on to share some words of his own following the exit.
“Much thanks… for her tremendous work on S.W.A.T. It was a pleasure to write for her and see what she did with the role each week.
“Stephanie’s an extremely talented actress,” he continued. “I look forward to seeing what she conquers next professionally. We’ll be rooting for her.”
S.W.A.T. Season 3 Episode 1 strongly suggested that Cortez would not be returning to the team after liking her trial run of FBI training.
But given that there was no indication about what was happening, it was hard not to wonder whether she could pop back up down the line.
Now, it appears the door is closed on a potential return, but this is TV. Anything can happen.
There's no word yet on who will be replacing Cortez, but Amy Farrington did appear on the premiere Detective Lynch -- a new series regular.
It's possible then that this character could be the replacement.
