Netflix is severing ties with Anne With an E.

The streamer is bringing the series to a close after its forthcoming third season.

Creator and executive producer Moira Walley-Beckett broke the news via Instagram, writing, "I wish it could be different but it cannot. We have reached the end of the red Green Gables road after 3 wonderful seasons."

The CBC and Netflix said in a joint statement, "We’ve been thrilled to bring the quintessentially Canadian story of Anne With an E to viewers around the world."

"We’re thankful to producers Moira Walley-Beckett and Miranda de Pencier and to the talented cast and crew for their incredible work in sharing Anne’s story with a new generation."

"We hope fans of the show love this final season as much as we do, and that it brings a satisfying conclusion to Anne’s journey."

Canadian broadcast, The CBC shared ownership of the show with Netflix, and the third season wrapped Sunday on the network.

Netflix is set to stream the third -- and now final season -- from January 3 around the world.

Set in the late 19th century, Anne With an E starred Amybeth McNulty as the titular character. The series followed a young girl who moved in with the Cuthbert family and chronicles the ups and downs of her life.

The cast also includes Geraldine James, R.H. Thomson, Dalila Bela, Lucas Jade Zumann, Aymeric Jett Montaz, Corrine Koslo, Dalmar Abuzeid, and Cory Gruter-Andrew.

Anne With an E is one of many shows Netflix has given the pink slip after three seasons. Santa Clarita Diet and One Day at a Time come to mind.

The streamer has notoriously been canceling more shows of late, with Tuca and Bertie and Chambers getting their marching orders after a single season each.

Thankfully, it seems Anne With an E is getting a wrap-up during the final season, so fans should not be left out in the cold, wondering what might have been.

What are your thoughts on this latest cancellation?
