Chicago PD Season 7 Episode 7 Review: Informant

Remember when kids in middle school used to say "snitches get stitches"?

Well, on Chicago PD Season 7 Episode 7 we learned that the stitches part means they can get killed in broad daylight while chatting up a cop.

I have to say, I've watched every single episode of Chicago PD to date, and I've never been so shaken by a death in my life.

Crawford Asks Intelligence For Help - Chicago PD

When Cameron got shot in the chest, I jumped out of my seat.

It was obvious that he was going to die by the end of the episode.

Not only is it par for the course for many CI's, but Cam was a rather overzealous one who ran rampant and ignored Hailey when she urged him to let it go.

Though, I didn't expect his death to be so tragic and ruthless.

It's probably important to get this out there now -- the first rule of being a CI is to not walk into a police station freely.

You might as well just ask to get killed.

And when a cop tells you to let it go, you shouldn't continue chasing leads.

Hailey took Cam's death personally, and ultimately, the death was on her. She reached out to him knowing how eager he could be about helping.

His blood was, quite literally, on her hands... and face.

The whole episode was heavy for Hailey, who didn't know how to live with her guilt.

When Voight doesn't have the answers either, you knew it was serious.

There's no problem that Voight cannot fix.

Was Darius responsible for Cam's death? That remains uncertain, though, all signs point to it being the case.

Darius proved he wields a significant amount of power on the streets; he's capable of anything.

He also knew he had Voight's protection.

Plus, Cameron was able to ID Darius as a CI after seeing him inside the police station.

But even if Darius was the man behind the kill, it wasn't worth pursuing.

Darius helped them get the carfentanil off the street and spared them plenty of overdoses.

Voight could have thrown the case and turned on Darius but it wouldn't bring Cameron back.

At least this way, they were doing their job by getting the drugs off the streets.

Darius also held up his end of the bargain after a little nudge from Voight.

He learned that messing with Voight comes at a high cost.

He's going to fall in line from now on or else back to the cage he goes.

Darius also proved his worth by pulling off that transaction so smoothly that Mackie believed he was the one getting tracked and bugged.

When you're a snitch, the best thing to do is make the other party believe they're the snitch. It's reverse psychology.

And for someone who has never been a CI before, Cam's flawless execution was impressive.

It's On You - Chicago PD Season 7 Episode 7

In just that moment alone, he was able to accomplish what Voight needed without tipping anyone off.

Hailey was front-and-center on the episode, but she should have been sidelined after becoming personally involved in the case.

She was so blinded by her hatred towards Darius that she could have easily compromised the bust.

Hailey also should have never followed Book Barr when he tried to go off-book.

She wanted so badly to get the lead and catch Barr in the act, but she put herself and Cameron in harm's way.

The scene with Barr crashing into the car in front of him and ripping was just as intense as his overdose.

People will go to outrageous lengths to make money.

Had Cam not pulled Upton down in the car, she would have gotten shot in the head.

There needs to be a better protocol in place when busts go sideways. Hailey should have never gotten into that car as the situation became too unpredictable.

We were all right when we predicted that Halstead wouldn't be affected by the mess he was involved in on Chicago PD Season 7 Episode 6

Halstead went on like nothing ever happened.

But there was a subtle follow up on the Upstead romance.

Those who ship them may have caught the "I'd follow you" parallel.

I'll Follow You - Chicago PD Season 7 Episode 7

Hailey said that to Halstead on Chicago PD Season 6, which is the first time we ever had an inkling of a possible romance, and now, Halstead said it back to her.

They're on the same page, and it's only a matter of time before they hook up.

Especially if Burgess and Ruzek are going to have a baby.

Look, that 10-second teaser at the end for Chicago PD Season 7 Episode 8 was more exciting than this whole episode combined.

How Do I Do This? - Chicago PD Season 7 Episode 7

Fans who watch Chicago PD online have been wondering where Burzek's storyline was headed after their hook-up during the #OneChicago crossover, and now, we know.

In the promo, Burgess reveals that she's pregnant and weighs her options of becoming a mother while also working in Intelligence.

"I don't want to miss the opportunity to become a mom," she says as Ruzek asks, "what does that mean."

Ruzek, buddy, we want to know just as badly as you do.

A Burgess baby is unexpected, but I can't say I hate the idea.

Aside from Antonio and Voight, none of the detectives in Intelligence have/ had kids or a family.

Burgess and Ruzek's baby could shake things up, raise the stakes, and maybe bring them back together again.

You Have to Trust Me - Chicago PD Season 7 Episode 7

One of the better things about Chicago PD Season 7 is how we've been able to dig into each character's story even if it only spans the duration of the episode.

The cases-of-the-week are compelling, but when done right, the personal storylines hold more weight and make episodes more entertaining.

Are you digging this baby storyline?

What did you think of the episode?

Was Hailey out of line? Should they trust Darius?

Crawford: And another body. And another street shut down.
Voight: We got Book for you. Turned out he was a small fish. We'll get the big one. We'll keep jumping the ladder. It may not be pretty, but it'll be worth it.

You don't want to play with me, Darius. Cause I don't play.
