Veronica Mars: Hulu Has No Plans to Renew Series

at .  Updated at .

It looks like Veronica Mars has solved her last case.

TV Line is reporting that there have been no discussions at Hulu about renewing the show for a fifth season.

In fact, a source close to the streamer claims that there are no plans to bring the show back.

However, series creator Rob Thomas tells the outlet that he is not ruling out the prospect of bringing back the Kristen Bell-led series in some form down the line.

Prior to the series debuting on the streamer, it was poised to continue beyond the fourth season, but fans reacted negatively to the final episode of the eight-episode revival.

The twist that closed the season featured the death of Jason Dohring's Logan, mere moments after he and Veronica solidified their relationship in marriage and got ready to live the rest of their lives together.

It took fans by surprise, and many took to social media to complain about the events.

The complaints were warranted when you consider that Veronica and Logan were at the heart of the series.

But the creative forces felt like it was better to change Veronica's life so that future seasons would feature a hardened iteration of the sleuth.

On Rotten Tomatoes, Veronica Mars Season 4 has 89% from critics, but the audience score is a paltry 28%.

For now, the series is on an indefinite hiatus because Hulu has yet to renew or cancel it officially.

Given that the revival hit the streamer back in July and there has been no firm comment on its future, it is worrisome.

They may be holding off on a renewal until some time has passed. What we do know is that Veronica Mars is resilient.

It originally aired for three seasons before being canceled by The CW, but fans helped fun a movie sequel thanks to a Kickstarter campaign.

That was when fans were eager for the show to return. If a similar tactic were to be used for a future revival or movie, it's possible that fans wouldn't show up to fund it.
